djf23
hey so i own a 144hz benq monitor and the only two games i really play are csgo and skyrim, now for skyrim 144hz isnt useable due to the 60hz physx limit as ive been told so ive figured using the ''v sync half refresh rate'' whilst using 120hz is my best option for the best of both worlds being a mainly fps player the 144hz was a fairly large boost for me and it really does make a difference, now with 120hz it feels nearly as smooth but it just isnt the same and you do notice it to be not as responsive (i know its only 24hz but i do feel i notice the lack of it, a lot of people say they dont see the difference but for me i can definately tell) so my question is, is there some sought of program or anyway to get my refresh rate to automatically switch between 144 and 120 depending on the game i start, i know it does not take long to change manually but i seem to go inbetween a lot so it would be awesome to have something that could do it automatically thanks Edited June 18, 2014 by djf23
camaro_69_327
personally using a 144 Hz monitor also...I use Nvidia and have set.... Monitor refresh rate 100 Hz and set Nvidia to " adaptive Vsync 1/3 Refresh rate" and the game is fluid, smooth at about 33 FPS. You never said Nvidia or AMD but with Nvidia, I can set a profile for every game i run, all games can have their own settings, so say Skyrim has the above settings and i let COD have at it...full out, no vsync. So try setting 144 for skyrim and Vsync at 1/4 Refresh? 36 FPS? Are you Nvidia?
djf23
i dont know how you can go from playing 144 to playing any game at 33fps it is so laggy and yer im using nvidia at the moment
notmyhome
Playing Skyrim with more than 60fps is not recommended. "Not Recommended" as in "you gotta be quite the masochist to try this". It causes strange Screen Tearing issues, stuff starts to float and other weird behaviour. Not that I'd ever seen that myself, I can barely get 30fps on an unmodded game... "Stuff starts to float"?? da hell's that supposed to mean and how is floating stuff bound to fps? There's absolutely no problem in playing games at high fps, you may get a tearing effect sometimes, but you can use a fps limiter to limit the fps to 30,60 or 120 to prevent this. As I said, I never experienced that myself, only read it somewhere. I could go look for the thread if you insist, but would prefer not to.
ncissuchti
Well, as someone who owns a high end gaming rig, I get to experience it pretty often, and I can tell you, the higher the fps the better. I'm playing CS:GO on 300 fps and have no issues at all!
notmyhome
Well, the CS:Go engine isn't the same used for Skyrim, is it? I can play Cube 2: Sauerbraten with 200 fps, and don't have any issues there either^^ Meanwhile, I have found the thread linking flying objects to FPS issues:http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2235670 After having a second look at my original post, I realized I had written things start to "float" which is wrong, of course. My bad.
ncissuchti
This is weird. Why would things start flying around because of the recieved framerate O_o I've played skyrim on 60+ fps and apart from some tearing once in a while it was perfect
djf23
It's something to do with the physx engine, I did have issue when I was at 120 fps, first the main start scene in the cart well the carts start spinning and tipping and it breaks the scene and you can't do anything, then on another thing was inside the inn at river wood all the cups and items behind the bar would all just go crazy and fly around, but I have tried 72fps everything seemed fine so I don't know
