mupp3n
Why is this? The new system is ridiculously slow and it chooses US mirrors rather than EU. 1h to download a 300mb mod via US mirror... thank you nexus
Oubliette
All covered in the latest news post. Basically the new system will choose the least used server at any given time, it will give your preferred region preference but if those servers are overloaded it'll keep going till it find the least overloaded server and use that one. Also, I don't recommend making new topics every few minutes. Yes, thank Nexus for providing us with a large, stable, archive of mods from just about every moddable game for free. If the speed bothers you that much you can always look elsewhere for your modding needs, good luck with that. "New topics every few minutes"Someone is dense. Ive paid money to use this site before.Didnt get a good experience then, poor speeds even with premium servers. Why support something refuses to improve on itself?Growing bigger != better. It tends to be the downfall for all giants. When I could choose my download server, I always got an instant connection and better speeds than I do now. Now I get forced onto American servers, which bring me no joy, poor speeds, takes ages to connect to. Thus i cant download multiple mods at once, like I used to. Now I have to stick with 2 mods at a time because the site goes to a halt. Least used server != better. Its worse.
Sacremas
I agree with OP, choosing your download mirror location was the main benefit of downloading manually when it didn't work with the manager, now it doesn't work with the manual download just as often. It keeps redirecting me to London (N6) which more often than not causes the page to timeout before it can respond, or it redirects me to Salt Lake City witth the same result. Before I chose for myself London 1-4 and got my file in 1/10 of the time it took the download manager. Frankly this site is becoming less user friendly rather than more. Dark0ne
If you're really struggling now and want to be rude about it I'd recommend coming back after the Steam sale has finished and our servers aren't being battered by a four-fold increase in download traffic. You'd have had the exact same problem with the old manual file server selection; the difference would be you'd click 20 times to try and get a server that works, only for none of them to work at that time. Warrior84
Today when I decided to download some mods from this site I was surprised to see that mirrors are not available anymore. I liked the old system where you could choose the download mirror. This new system prefers the USA (are those servers less active or what? If it searches for least active mirrors..)and for someone living in EU/Europe that's annoying indeed. I had to refresh several times to get a European mirror (London) and when I did get one I got an error page in my browser, and after several more refreshes I got an EU mirror again. I always liked downloading from the European mainland (mainly from Amsterdam, as that's the closest to where I live) and now I can't do that. It's a good idea but it needs improving. It needs to select EU mirrors more often for those that live there. And due to the recent events (I always read the site news, so I know what's been going on...) downloading and browsing today was extra slow. Well, not browsing but downloading at least. I think I'll just wait until the situation settles down. EDIT: It looks like the London (N3) mirror is unavailable. My borwser gives me a server error page.Another edit: Looks like it wasn't but sometimes my browser gives me a server unavailable page. bben46
If you remember, the US and Europe are on different schedules. During prime downloading time in Europe, most Americans are still asleep - meaning there are fewer users on those servers. As time goes on, the US east coast starts downloading - and the open servers will be on the west coast. Conversely, as the Americans wake and start downloading more, the load shifts and the European servers will be used less. The absolute worst time to be downloading is when both sides of the Atlantic are active - at that time, the least used servers will be none of them. And you are going to be bounced around while the site tries to find an open server to take your request. :pinch:
Warrior84
That makes sense I suppose. I was awake late last night so I guess the European servers just weren't available. Today was a way better day. It found EU servers more often and even some US servers weren't that bad. I guess I should just stick to downoading in the afternoon and/or eavning, heh. Thank you for clearing it up how it works. Also, one last question: What has happened to the European mainland servers? Mirrors like Amstardam etc. (can't remember if there were others). It only seems to connect to the various London mirrors. I'm wondering if they exist anymore. As I said the mainland is closer to where I live than GB is.
VampyrPrince
What's the point of premium, if you're downloading from servers that are super slow? Haven't been able to get much over 1,000kbs and being forced on a server that's half a continent away isn't exactly what I'd call premium. :(
