FO3Edit Troubles...

I've looked in a lot of places. What I find is that if you right-click in the white space of FO3Edit, select "Create Merged Patch," name it, hit Okay, and FO3Edit will automatically create a merged patch file for you.

Awesome. It doesn't work for me! I follow the procedure, and there is an entry at the bottom for the new .esp file. When I click on it, there is only a "File Header" entry which is basically empty. On the right side, I get the message '[xyz.esp] Adding master "whatever.esp"' for all the .esp files, but nothing else happens (I'd expect a "Finished" statement or something).

Help! Am I doing something wrong? Is my file messed up? What's going on?

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention I'm running the most recent build (2.53+) on a Windows 7 system. Just tried running as Admin with no luck.

Most of the manuals online don't mention that if there is only a header, there are no conflicts. FO3Edit/FNVEdit/etc should mention there are no conflicts during the creation of a merged patch, or perhaps include that in their manuals, so absent minded persons like me don't think anything is wrong ;) Would be nice if Nexus Mod Manager did this on it's own with a selectable option to merge the addons, or with FOMM, if that gets updated.

If the Merged Patch file only has a file header (and it is the ONLY Merged Patch file you have), then that's good news, you have no conflicts between your mods, so you can delete the Merged Patch file :)

I don't understand FO3Edit, bash tags or merged batches - seriously, I'm lost on this stuff and I can't find a single drop of useful info. All I've got installed is..

Game and all DLC

Apocalypse Armory 2.0

FWE 6

Unofficial FO3 patch

Mods are sorted with BOSS. When I run FO3Edit I first get a pop-up with all my game files checkmarked, so I hit OK and it starts running and making a log. Then I get this pop-up: "An error occured while loading modules. Editing is disabled. Check the message log and correct the error." Here's the last 3 lines of my log:

[00:06] Background Loader: [Fallout3.esm] Processing completed

[00:06] Background Loader: Fatal: <Exception: "Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch.esm" requires master "Fallout3.esm" to be loaded before it.>

[00:47] Background Loader: finished

What makes no sense is that Fallout3.esm is loading first! In fact its the first file in NMM's list of plugins and Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch.esm is #2. I"m using FO3Eedit v3.0.15 - if there's a newer one I can't find it.

Help???

FWE already has plenty of guns. I wouldn't bother with a compatibility patch personally. Also the mod "Fallout Remastered" replaces the Unofficial FO3 patch. Check it out.

Thx, I will check out the patch you mention. As for the rest, well, that's your opinion and the docs for AA and FWE disagree with it completely. Siince running FWE with AA crashes my game (even though I have the FOIP patch for them) I tend to believe the mod authors, as well as every veteran player and modder in the community who all use merging. I just need someone to tell me how to make FO3Edit stop crashing so I can actually use it.

Agreed, but for posterity's sake, lets have a look at what the FOIP description page says:

Merged Patch

Remeber you still need a merged patch when using FOIP(actually it's even more important when you use FOIP). Please see in this FAQ how to create one.

You mentioned using NMM. Considering it's still in beta, I'd recommend using FoMM instead (for now at least). You don't need to uninstall NMM, nor do you need to uninstall any of the mods you installed via NMM though.

The reason why I recommend FoMM is because the FO3Edit problem might be caused by NMM. So basically: Install FoMM, re-sort your mods (if needed) or use BOSS (which is integrated in FoMM), then try loading up Fo3Edit again.

The instructions for using FO3Edit state to sort you load order in FOMM and than close FOMM before you open FO3Edit. If you do not have the instruction manual, suggest you download a copy from the Nexus.

FO3Edit was created before the creation of NMM. It is very possible that it does not support NMM.

This is what happened to me. How do i delete it? I can't seem to in Fo3Edit and when i search my computer for it i can't find it anywhere. It's like it doesn't exist but when i open Fo3Edit it's still there. what am i missing?
