Quick question about possible copyright risk.

Hello,

I pretty much know the answer to this, but I am asking this question humor my friend, and to verify it myself.

The gist of the question is this.... Would taking the mountian cat, or cougar animal model/animations from Oblivion and transfering them to make a cat in my Fallout mod be considered copyright. I am planning to release the mod. I figured it would be becuase I assume that Bethesda has the model/animations under some sort of protection, and it would not be smart to release them (for free) in my own mod, this giving people who downloaded it a free pass at the models without even buying Oblivion.

Just a question, I really do not need the cat for my mod, my friend just wanted to have one put in it.

If this is in fact copyright, is there any mod with cat-type creatures for Fallout I could possibly use then?

Thanks for any input everyone.

Taking assets from any game and transferring them to another is DEFINED as copyright infringement.

Now as an outside chance . . .

MMM in Oblivion has several modified cats

Importing them with MMM permission might be possible

and transferring original assets from a mod to another game is allowed

(with permission of the originator)

Not exactly true, it depends on the copyright holder's wishes. If they say you can, then there's no infringement.

In this case though, it's been established that Bethesda is against it. You could do it for yourself, and "release it" even, but Nexus wouldn't host it.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Glad to know for sure about this, I had a good inkling that doing any of this sort of this was no good, but very good to clear it up.

Thanks again for the replies, I really appreciate it.
