LOL50015
I'm thinking on downloading a follower mod, namely Mirai. However, I don't know if it will make my experience better, I'm worried about problems like: 1) Using them as a meat shield and have the enemy bash at them while I bash at the enemy2) Blocking doors or narrow paths.3) Having to constantly wait for them to catch up because of poor path finding4) Standing in front on an enemy while I'm trying to use ranged attacks on an enemy, especially if we happen to be n somewhere narrow.5) Running in front of my line of fire when I'm using flames or bow and arrows and getting shot6) Defending the whole fight instead of helping me take down enemies.7) Needlessly attracting enemies by charging into enemies that are not aware of us, no, not when sneaking but a situation where we saw them but they didn't see us.8) Setting off traps and killing us both.9) Being useless because their attacks simply don't hurt anyone So what do you think? NateTheWizard
It all depends on your play style. I personally go for a more individualistic approach when playing the game so I don't usually take on followers as a matter of principle. As for their usefulness, they can be incredibly valuable (necessary even) in tough fights at higher difficulties. Followers also essentially give you extra inventory space, which is great when you're out dragon hunting or looting dungeons. At the very least I would say to try out a follower, and if worst comes to worst you can just dismiss the follower or uninstall the mod :)
notmyhome
NPC AI wasn't made for stealth. If that's what you're going for you're better off on your own. But if you want to confront multiple enemies at once, you'll need them. They can be annoying (like wondering what's inside the cave you just emerged from), but there's a mod that makes them move out of your way faster.Anyway, I tire of generic NPCs too quickly. I like them having custom dialogue at least, so I can engage in discussions.
scissorhands
I'd like it if it didn't make combat so easy. Though its annoying when they stand in doorways as well.
fraquar
Followers aren't meant to follow 24/7/365. Sometimes you have to park them a safe distance away, infiltrate and clear an area, then go back and get them and continue on. For me at least, primarily in indoor areas that house spellcasters or ranged attackers - last thing I want is my follower chasing them and stirring all of them up at once. If you never park them and always have them in tow, yeah, inevitably they are going to make your day miserable from time to time. One place I never take one - Falmer/Chaurus infested areas. They virtually always get in way over their head with a quickness, then I'm usually in way over my head.
Amyr
They atleast manage to make me react to them. For better or worse, they create an illusion of immersion, which makes me wanna talk to them.
StupidDunmer
It depends on what kind of character you are playing. If you are playing a very independent character who makes independent choices, having a follower probably wouldn't be suitable. If your character makes friendships and likes to fight side-by-side with another person, then having a follower would be suitable.
MethosTR
I like using followers for characters that are more focused on face-to-face combat. For a mage, I may use a follower, but it gets to be fairly inconvenient since I have to be careful with my aim :P For stealthy characters I use followers when running around Skyrim. I make them wait (or dismiss, depending on my mood) when I go into a dungeon though.
LOL50015
Okay, so I downloaded the Mirai follower mod and she works quite well. But not as good as I expected with all the hype and stuff. And does anyone have any clothing mod suggestions for Mirai? Her default clothing looks awful, it looks like a very try hard attempt to scream poor people. dennis20014
I agree, her default outfit is garbage, and honestly, quite a few items were ripped from the West Wind Mage Outfit, which is awesome (IMO). I would recommend getting that mod and trying that out. Also, having followers can have negatives. If you have more than one (like I do sometimes) it can be tedious managing everyone's inventory. But if you play on higher difficulty, and perhaps a mage like someone mentioned, they can be valuable. And I have a mix of custom follower mods and generic follower mods. I create my own stories for them if they are generic and I still feel immersed :)
