FPS too slow...

Hey, this is my first post... I'm new to PC games and mods. I just got a new PC with crazy specs that are all well past Oblivion's recommended specs.

Yet for some reason I cannot play even Vanilla Oblivion in any of the higher settings.

Here are my specs for a reference:

Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz

2.33 GHz Performance Rated at: 5.126 GHz

6.0 GB RAM

Windows Vista 64bit SP1

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce G100

DirectX 10

From what I understand this is way past what I need to run the game in higher resolutions. The PC even has an HDMI port! Yet it usually runs like crap even on the lower settings now (I think because of all my mods).

I don't even know how to tweak my PC, but I just wish it would play games like I thought it would when I bought it last month. Please help me if you can.

Games and videos are entirely different. Your video card is good for videos/ blue-ray, Full HD etc. Thought it'll not be for your games. However oblivion is quite special in its acting. Did you try streamline yet? But beyond that, you might need to consider getting a new graphics video card.

I did a good search on google about this card and found this.

You Geforce G100 is really a rebranded Geforce (9400 series)class 3 card-a low midrange GPU. It will only play the newer games like Crysis at decreased details and mediocre resolution. a year from now it will be barely games capable in regard to new releases.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This card seems to be more suited to playing DVD/Video than games, i have a geforce 295 (x2) and this plays crysis no problem but sometimes struggles with Oblivion ( modded ), but then again i have everything wacked up full.

Its not a lame card if its used for what its meant for. Its a decent card if you're only editing photos and stuff. The chipset isn't really up to supporting games though. Its not got a high enough memory clock speed. Sure, its got 512mb of memory (which these days is only just eeking above standard anyways - and Oblivion, particularly when modded should always be regarded as a "new" game because its such a resource hog) but it can't access that memory real quick.

But you're certainly right about Vista. Microshaft even admitted they released it as beta, wanting the public to help work out the bugs. Thats fine, I don't mind beta testing software. But I'll do it for free or the devs can pay me. Charging me for the effort? Personally I think they can go take a real long walk off of a real short pier.

Whoisgeez; You bought that system a month ago? Did you buy it from a mate or something, or from a store? Especially if you got it from a store and asked for a gaming PC, the retailer/clerk that advised you should be shot. Thats not a gaming card, and its not a gaming OS. Stacks of RAM & a Quad core CPU do not a gaming system make. To be honest, you'd get better performance from a 32bit XP system with 3gb of RAM & a 256mb graphics card.

You also said it doesn't run vanilla real quick but have mods installed. If you have installed ANY mods at all, thats no longer a vanilla install. Even if they are deactivated, once they are in the data folder, they can and 9/10 times WILL still affect your game.

Instead of tacking your problem onto some one elses topic, make your own that will be dedicated to your particular problem.

Your problem is NOT the same. It is similar.
