I HAVE NO GREETING!

This wasn't a problem at first. I had an orc adventurer in the Shivering Isles and I gave his faction some unique dialog. I did it just like I would in Tamriel. It worked great -- for one day.

Now it never ever works and all he ever wants to say is "I HAVE NO GREETING!" If I give him a custom topic besides GREETING, he won't use it. If I command him to use the custom topic with StartConversation Player, he still has no GREETING. If I put him in a certain SE factions like SEManiaFaction he will use SE greetings but still won't use custom dialog.

At this point my orc adventurer is quite unique. He has his own form ID. He is in a new orc adventurer faction, he is in a new leveled list, he has new custom dialog he won't use.

The custom quest with the dialog has the "GetPlayerInSEWorld == 1" condition and has also been tried without it. The dialog has been tried with and without this condition in addition to the other conditions.

Where is the setting you can change to make something "Shivering Isles aware" as the marvelously vague wiki describes it?

How can I make my poor orc adventurer talk?

I have been through the same problem (works for a while, then all of a sudden the NPCs loose their dialogue) --- and that just made me give up my plans to make dialogued quests for the Shivering Isles. It is an expansion´s bug, you could try the unofficial patch, but I do not guarantee it will help you. But in case you figure out how to fix it, I want to be the first to know...

This happens when the game 'thinks' you are in the other realm. For example you left SI someway, without reseting the control variables. The easier solution is passing thru the Strange gate and returning. That grants the variables corrected.

Edit: sorry, I think I misunderstood the problem. The reason is yet the same, the game control the greetings based on the realm the PC is at the moment. So to give those particular generic talk may be a difficult task and dangerous messing with those controls.

Thanks for the advice.

A bit more data on the problem:

The character which is play-testing entered the Shivering Isles through the Strange Door and has been in the Shivering Isles for a week or so. I think I added in the orc adventurer after the play-test character was already in position and testing. So I don't think I have picked up glitches from traveling.

The quest with custom dialog for the orc adventurer is set to priority 100. I usually only set my quest priority to 75. In this case, the priority increase is not making a difference.

I have tried putting the NPC in both the Mania faction and the Demential factions. In those factions, the orc will use the generic voiced greetings. I guess I could add my own orc dialog to the quest that those greetings come from, but it seems like a way to create a few mod conflicts and make the mod look a little dirty.

Nobody seems to have a magic bullet for this problem, so maybe I will try adding my custom stuff to the vanilla quest and report back.

I got it working! My orc adventurer says what he is supposed to now. My orc is in the SEManiaFaction. I put my custom dialog in quest SEConversations. (There are other possible locations.) I used vanilla topics GREETING and SEShiveringIslesTOPIC.

This is sort of discouraging though, because I got a taste of how hard it is to mod the Shivering Isles. This might be why there aren't a lot of Shivering Isles Quest mods. I don't know how I would go about making one that had a lot of dialog.

Thanks for the help everybody!
