lunayestrella
I've tried to do this myself but my knowledge of Skyrim modding is dismal. For people who dont like to use the instant fast travel and prefer the Morrowind style fast travel of carriages and boats, I think a boat service between Riften and Ivarstead is a logical FT link. Maybe even a ferry between Dragon Bridge and Solitude too. :)
Hallgarth
It's a good idea, but I doubt a boat would be able to go all the way to Ivarstead, as isn't it higher than Riften? Wouldn't a boat have to go up a watefall or something? Maybe I'm remembering wrong.
lunayestrella
No, they are at the same level. I wouldn't request this mod if they werent. There is a small obstacle in the middle of the river, but that was just placed there to cover the change of water current, so I can overlook it. The river's first waterfalls appear right at the height of Ivarstead.
tx12001
it would not work as Hallgarth said it would need to go up a waterfall and a few places a boat simply would not fit there is more then 1 if I rememeber Edited July 10, 2014 by tx12001
lunayestrella
I think that can be overlooked. It's just fast travel, it's not like you're going to be seeing the boat navigate under low bridges. If you want to rationalize it, imagine you pulling the boat out of the water and going around the obstacles.
MerDryad
I like this idea. It probably wouldn't be to hard, just use the boat from dawnguard and make a new npc. I know nothing about modding but I'm going to start attempting to learn soon, so maybe once I know how I'll try making this. RaktoastTheSandwichTopper
even if there was a waterfall boats can be portaged
Morgwynn
Look at the Panama Canal it has locks where a boat floats in and the lock closes and fills up with water allowing the boat to move on down the line to it's next destination, maybe something like that could be done to get over the waterfall. IsharaMeradin
I just jumped into the game and COC'd to the inn in Ivarstead, toggled on god mode and swam to Riften. There are two blockages, a small tree and a big tree, both have enough room around them to have believable portage paths. There are two bridges, one at heartwood mill that has enough clearance to duck heads and pass under in a canoe/rowboat. The other is too low and would require a portage as well. There are no waterfalls between Ivarstead and Riften. The only waterfall from Ivarstead is past Geirmund's hall and on past Nilheim going over to Darkwater Crossing. If one sticks to the right rather than the left, they'll stay level and head over towards Riften. A canoe route between Riften and Ivarstead is feasible. I know nothing about modding but I'm going to start attempting to learn soon, so maybe once I know how I'll try making this. I've tried my hand at copying the boatman of Windhelm. I managed to connect him to the seat activator on the rowboat, but I believe a new script is required that would exclude this boat from the existing network of boats, since travelling from Riften to Solitude, Windhelm or Dawnstar by boat is certainly not very realistic. But really my knowledge of this type of modding is very limited, so I can't really advance.
