Pineapplerum
Hi,I got an external hard drive and I would like to put the mods I'm downloading into this hard drive instead of all the mods eating up all the space in my internal hard drive. How would I go about doing this? Please dumb down your answer because I'm very new to external hard drives and understanding what different files are.Thank you.
MikeHibs
You should just be able to plug the hard drive into your computer (might be USB or Firewire). You might also have to plug in a power cord, depending on the size of the drive.Turn on the hard drive, and it should show up in My Computer. Then, make a folder in it and call it "oblivion mods" or what ever you want. Then, you can just download all the files to that folder. Hopefully that helps.
nosisab
Actually that is the better usage of external hardware, keeping installers and general media and documents. What you should avoid is installing something there beyond those things you eventually find you can't avoid. The main reason is installed applications most of times create register entries that can prevent the application to run correctly or run at all if something changes, like the drive letter for instance. PS: It's a good place to create backups too! PS2: most nowadays external HDs are eSATA or USB, the first may be sometimes quicker than the internal hardware, the second many times are quick enough to run applications from. So it's more a matter of being careful if installing something there and being conscious that the other advantage, the mobility may not work at all for installed applications. That makes the external driver better as storage media and backup and in this they excel, if not for anything else, for the portability.
