Sealwarrior
Having trouble with downloading OBSE 17b, i extracted the nessecary files to my oblivion directory (i have the game on steam) and then when i try to use a mod that requires obse, it doesnt work (like 28 days and a bit more mod)any ideas on what im doing wrong? Hmm, I am not sure I am qualified, but I can try and help. In the readme, the installation instructions for steam are as follows: "Copy obse_1_2_416.dll, obse_editor_1_2.dll, and obse_steam_loader.dll to your Oblivion directory." I am not sure if this was what you did, but you only need these three put into the Oblivion directory itself, not any of the sub-folders. The other obse_loader you can ignore and/or discard. Also, you may want to download the OBSE 18 beta, as that is the most current version of the tool. This version has some more features that will help when adding some of the newer mods out there. I hope this helps. By the way, are you using Wrye Bash?
niccolo
Wrye Bash won't affect OBSE running or not, that I can assure you. The best thing you can do is do what sealwarrior said first; follow the instructions in the readme to the letter. If you don't, the game will break. And make sure to get the steam loader file.And. ONE LAST THING: You must double-click on the steam loader file! It will start your game for you, but it starts up OBSE first. I suspect that that is what you've been doing wrong. You can't use the normal method of starting it - but you can change the pathway of the icon so that it leads TO the loader. The instructions are all in the readme. thegood159
"You must double-click on the steam loader file!" i tried doing that, it told me i couldnt run it, and i would have to choose a program to run it, so i clicked oblivion, but it only lets me press "exit" or "elderscrolls.com" what do i do now? nosisab
"You must double-click on the steam loader file!" i tried doing that, it told me i couldnt run it, and i would have to choose a program to run it, so i clicked oblivion, but it only lets me press "exit" or "elderscrolls.com" what do i do now?would be better if you were clear about the message sent, from what you said I can just speculate the application can't find the programs it needs to run, that occurs if it isn't in the correct folder (the folder where oblivion is installed) or, not so uncommon, you may be trying to run the icon from the desktop and it's The program's copy instead a shortcut to it. PS: one thought, if you reported the message correctly it seems you are trying to run a dll instead an exe file. Another thing, you did not tell us about the OS, it's a Windows XP? Vista? Seven? The last two need some special cares, first you should avoid installing games in the C:\Program Files because the increased "security" it is treated, what prevent third part applications to work. If you do not want or can't install the game away from that folder, you will need to disable the UAC and run as the administrator Finally, play in the secure side, untick the "hide extensions for known file types". in windows 7 you access that option navigating from any explorer's window -> Organize -> Folder and Search Options... in the new window go to the "view" tag and search the above option and make sure it's not marked. That will show what a file is, I never understood why windows hides so important information, shame for the elegance lacking? maybe. In XP you may need to go to Control Panel and Folder Options, etc.
