wghost81
If OSX behaves similarly to Linux, you should change XComGameCore.ini instead of DefaultGameCore.ini.
VirtualAlex
Hmm you have any idea where that would be? It doesn't reside in the same folder as DefaultGameCore.ini EDIT: found this thread http://www.reddit.com/r/Xcom/comments/2jf863/lwosx_defaultgamecoreini_edits_have_no_effect/ Anderkant explains that the XCOMgamecore is located in a feral interactive folder Edited November 7, 2014 by VirtualAlex
Treki26
How do I stop XCOM from phoning home?
psuedojones
Hi, I followed the instructions at this installer: https://github.com/timgilbert/long-war-unix-installer/blob/master/docs/Installation.md Everything seems to work fine. Blocked phoning home, started in offline mode. Game boots to the main menu, and works fine through attempting to start a new game. Once I start a new game, it hits the loading screen, runs for about a minute, then crashes to desktop. This is the first time I've used Terminal or modded any game. Do you guys have any advice on what I've done wrong?
MJiggy
Ok I re-downloaded XCOM from steam but now I cannot install long war: MULTIVAC:~ alexkrasny$ /Users/alexkrasny/Downloads/LW-EW-Linux-OSX-b14-build5c2/install-LW-OSX.sh Installing Long War for XCOM:EW, please, be patient...User files dir: /Users/alexkrasny/Library/Application Support/Feral Interactive/XCOM Enemy Unknown/XEW\e[0;31mOld version of Long War found. When I start the game, it just goes straight into vanilla with no acknowledgement of Long War (I guess it's not installed anymore). The backup_oldLW folder is there in this directory but it's empty. Any other work arounds? Thanks! Edit: Going to verify the install through Steam, then try the process again and see what happens. I tried this yesterday but I may have reinstalled the mod before letting the game phone home. However any other advice is appreciated as I am having the exact same problem as alex. MJiggy
Verifying the install didn't work. Going to try uninstalling the whole game again but I think the problem is that some of the files from the old LW are retained even after doing an uninstall. Clearing the cache might work but I'm not actually sure how to do that, if anyone can help with that.
Khamza
Ugh. OK, finder is creating some files in those directories that the install script doesn't know how to handle. To fix this, remove the .lw_install file from your game installation directory (probably '~Library/Application\ Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/XCom-Enemy-Unknown/') Do we need to remove the entire file? Because I tried to remove only .DS_Store line from the file and it worked for me.
habadabeer
I must be missing something obvious, but I can't find the installer for OSX. I have manually downloaded Long War 3 Beta 14h for Linux and Mac OSX . Unzipping reveals the folder "LW-EW-Linux-OSX-B14h" which seems to hold nothing but plain text documents and embedded folders of plain text documents. I found this link elsewhere in this forum: https://github.com/timgilbert/long-war-unix-installer/blob/master/docs/Installation.md which instructs "Double-click the .dmg file to mount it. A disk image will pop up with three files on it." Nope. No disk image to be found. What have I overlooked?
wghost81
As of b14 LW uses shell scripts (.sh files) to install and uninstall the mod. Read this post for an installation example: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1918524-long-war-for-mac-osx-pointers-advice/?p=19586614
habadabeer
Thanks wghost81, tried that. In terminal: "cd install-LW-OSX.sh", hit enter, got something like "path not found". Not terminal savvy, had no idea how to proceed, so I gave up. After I posted my previous entry, I was able to successfully install beta 13 for Mac using https://github.com/timgilbert/long-war-unix-installer/blob/master/docs/Installation.md and have finished first mission, applied promotions, bought a SHIV and 3 satellites, and started excavating and building a satelllite uplink before saving. In short, everything seems to be working great. Is there any reason I should worry about installing the latest build? If yes, I understand I must revert to original "vanilla" EW first, but apparently need someone to hold my hand through the install process. One last thing, I blocked phoning home, and turne off cloud sync in Steam, but could not find a way to disable automatic updates. I appreciate your guidance!
