Questions You Always Wanted To Ask...

When M.C. gets the Amulet of Kings, why is he able to wear it? Whenever your character tries to wear it, it slips off, but when you see him, he's wearing it. ...

...Or was it just a major oversight on Bethesda's side?

Doesn't seem to be an oversight, but something deliberate on Bethesda's part.

The pragmatic reason why Mankar is wearing the amulet is so that your character cannot pickpocket it when he's delivering the sermon at Dagon's Shrine. You can't nab anything a living NPC currently has equipped on himself.

On the other hand, they modeled Mankar's robes so that the amulet will visually show up on his person. You may have noticed with every other robe in the game, any necklace a character wears doesn't show. They could have applied the same quality to Mankar's robe and avoided the debate, but instead it has been modeled so as to give rise to that very matter— you can see, plain as day, the Amulet of Kings around Mankar Camoran's neck, but only because Bethesda wanted you to.

If the lower class people in town can afford those weapons, why can't they afford better clothes?

And how can they afford those houses worth 1000-3000 gold, but don't have any money for better clothes?

Houses are big investments. They save up all their money just to buy it. They take out loans, etc. However, the thing about the weapons is strange. If they can afford those expensive weapons, why not better clothes?

First of all, peasants and the like are commonly carrying around Iron daggers— not exactly top-of-the-shelf.

And this isn't a peaceable utopia we're talking about— there's a very tangible need for a dagger, be it bandits, West Weald bears, or crabs that make aggressive leaping attacks! A dagger, mace or sword would be seen as a neccessity and thus becomes a sizeable burden on your budget. In Tamriel, you can survive without fancy duds, but try saying the same of a basic weapon for self-defense.

Why is some kind of extravagant outfit cost only like 14 gold when a simple weapon like a steel dagger is worth more that it? (I can't remember the exact prices so correct me if I'm wrong about which weapon or the prices) ...

Nowadays, you can buy a fancy suit ensemble for a good $500. A fine steel longsword will run you around the neighborhood of $1,000. That's today, in the real world. Tamriel isn't all that odd in this matter.

Yes, but we don't use swords for any real purpose nowadays. They are just used for decoration. If you want self defense, there are things like that stuff that when sprayed in your eyes, hurts badly. I'm guessing that doesn't cost more than $500.

Exactly. Now swords are worth so much because they're not used and are more collecters' items. In Tamriel, swords are one of the main weapons they use. I guess this is an example of how the prices of things in Oblivion aren't as realistic as some people may like. Low quality weapons shouldn't be worth almost as much as extravagant clothing. ;)

Swords were never cheap, even in the days when they were being made. Takes a lot of time, effort, and fuel to shape a 3 pound billet of steel into a thin band of steel; and further more time, effort, and fuel to properly harden this thin band of steel so that it'd survive impact when you ram it edgewise into a target.

In history, the two most expensive things a knight would need were his sword and his horse— worth as much as a full year's income from agricultural sales (in order to be gentry, you owned land and sold whatever crops your farmers raised). This gave rise to the whole fuedalism thing: have some obscenely rich dude fund your fighting gear, and you end up serving in his forces as payment.

Spears were the quick-n-cheap way to get a weapon in those days, because wood was so much easier to work with, the steel portion comprising a realtively small portion of the finished item (and never mind you the superior reach!).

And if you want side-by-side comparisons of swords against "Ye Olde Parfum of Death", how much does it cost to get the Entropic Touch spell from Edgar in the Imperial City?

Who killed Countess Indarys of Cheydinhal? Your list of suspects, please.

Lucien Lachance's invite into the Brotherhood?

There is a sneaking suspicion that Llathasa's death was done to cement the threats the Dark Brotherhood laid against Count Indarys, but I'd think it more likely that this may have been a case where Llathasa discovered Andel's collusion with the Brotherhood and threatened to reveal the secret to everyone. The Dark Brotherhood then acted against this threat to their security.

That's one theory. My own idea is that the castle mage is having an affair with Count Indarys and she killed the Countess to pave her way to Llathasa's place on the throne.

New question for the kiddies: in the "Blood of the Divines" quest, your primary difficulty in locating a Aedric artifact is that the Divines do not normally manifest themselves in the mortal world. Yet there is one case where this has happened. So, my question is why do we have to go after the Armor of Tiber Septim in Sancre Tor when the Brush of Truepaint is sitting pretty in Rythe Lythandras' house? Much easier than hacking one's way through an army of undead, I'm sure, and Rythe should really do his own work rather than rely on divine magic inherited from his daddy.

It was a secret, remeber? And i doubt that the Blades would be spying local celebrities.

But you happen to be in on the secret, so instead of going after a relic of Talos, you could go after this relic of Dibella.

And they're the Blades. They see all and know all. Except, of course, any Mythic Dawn assassins that happen to be camped out in your favorite escape route...

Behind doors only they (the assassins) have the key to. Weird.

Kudos to Stampede for making the three (This one, 'Who Did You Kill To Get Into The Dark Brotherhood?' and 'Funny Oblivion Incidents'.) most successful threads around the oblivion forums besides the now dead request thread (Rest in pieces)... And for all the moderator stuff of course!

How come when you have 100% chameleon/invisibility/sneak/etc, some shopkeepers still follow you around and keep you in sight while others don't?

Maybe they see your shadow, or hear you? Maybe they smell you. Since there are no toilets...

Mmm... That'll be my question. Do you still cast a shadow when you have chameleon or invisibility? What if the chameleon isn't 100%? I don't know because I never play with shadows...
