How do you install FOSE

It explains it in the readme. Just copy over all of the .dll files and the fose_loader.exe to your Fallout dirctory where you have the Fallout3.exe and FalloutLauncher.exe installed. Then start your game using the fose_loader.exe instead of the Fallout starter. That's all there is to it.

oh start it with FOSE launcher, well whats the difference? like what about starting with FOMM launcher or the regular fallout 3 launcher? FOSE doesn't work when it isn't launched?

That is correct. If you do not start the game with FOSE then it will not be enabled for your modifications. For FOMM there is a button for starting the game with FOSE. If you are using a shortcut make sure that you point it to the FOSE starter.

Since you seem to be new to this also get these to nexus uploads:

Fallout Stutter Remover

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8886

It is designed for FOSE and will let run the game more smoothly.

FO3 RAM Boost

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12031

This is a dream come true, works even with less than 3GB like in my case. Before using it, "search" your Fallout folder for "*.exe" and make a backup of your fallout.exe. Best you right click and zip it.

Then follow the readmes instruction.

The Simple Manager

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8678

I love this one for the way it displays the a savegames dependent mods. FOMM has the same feature (with even the possibility of exporting your loadorder stored in your savefile!!!) but the tool above has a better display.

PS: Comment above. Nice to see you here "Woodland Creature" :).

Assuming you have the steam version of either Fallout 3 or Fallout 3- Game of The Year edition.

Just copy over the necessary .dll files and the .exe file of FOSE, if you wish to run Steam and FOSE in the same time, rename fose_launcher.exe to FalloutLauncher.exe

This will replace the original FalloutLauncher.exe but the .dll files will still communicate with FOSE, so don't worry.

As all FOSE does is patching up Fallout3.exe

When you're in the main menu, to make sure FOSE is running do the following.

  • Search for the "~" key, or the key next to number "1".
  • when you're in the game's console, type the following.
  • getFOSEversion
  • if you get: getFOSEversion:1
  • then FOSE is running!
  • Enjoy!
