Jakoblade
I paid 60$ for the darn game, I get home, pop it in and realize it's the french version and the language isn't optional! Not cool... I played the game a lot on the Ps3 and loved the voices and now I'm stuck with bad translated dialogue D=< I figured desperate times call for desperate measures and I'd try my luck... anyone know a way to "fix" this? evilneko
Yeah -- take it back to the store and exchange it. You can do that you know..
Jakoblade
No since I opened it and played it to discover it was French they won't exchange it, I've tried that already.
phoneyLogic
They don't take it to give you an english version? I know it feels crude and it is not everyones taste, but maybe you should insist of it. Did you know that it was a french version? No. This can happen by accident. In most counties there are laws for it and they just have to take it back in a certain time ...So if they don't want to exchange it, I wouldn't buy a game there anymore. Otherwise you could resell it or ... learning french :pinch:
Jakoblade
I am perfectly bilingual, I understand french and speak it fluently I just prefer playing videogames and watching movies in english.
phoneyLogic
OK sorry. So back to your question. There is hardly anything you could do except getting an english copy. Making a french game to an english would require to replace the Fallout.esm, the voices bsa and the sound.bsa files (I think), but they are all copy righted and you'd probably still have some troubles here or there. So sorry, you'll need to get an english copy :/
pkleiss
I feel for you man. I don't know if you have this in you, but if it were me and I had the time, I would go to that store with the game in hand and make a big stink. My grandmother always said, "its the squeaky cog that gets the grease". I have found this technique to be 95% successful. Just make a lot of noise and warn other customers of what a bad place that store is to do business with. Most people don't like confrontation, so if they see someone arguing (without cursing or being rude, just loud), they will often avoid shopping there for a while. After costing them a few sales, they might change their mind. I have done this and the store even called the police. I let them and described my situation to the police as well. In the end, the store has always been able to do something. If the police make you leae the store, leave. And when they have gone stand out front of the store and warn prospective customers that the store will call the police on them if they are not satified with any products bought within. I don't know what country your bought your French version in, but here in the USA, even if you open the package, you have the right to return it. All you should have to say is that is does not work. This is true for you because you expected an English copy and got a French copy. This can be interpreted as a breach of contract, as the goods you received were not what you intended to pay for. Remember it is not the fault of the customer that packaging must be torn open to test the product. That is a decision made by the manufacturer. The store can return damaged goods to the manufacturer for a refund, and so you should be able to do the same. They might try to give you a hard time, just give them a harder time. I am not suggesting to do anything illegal, just exorcise your right to free speech.
