oblivion crashes after in-game loading

Hello guys,

I'm having a bit of a problem with loading my save games. Because when I first load my game after I started oblivion, all works well. But when I'm in game, and I want to reload an older save, the game crashes. I suspect it has something to do with OBSE, because before I installed this everything was just fine. I can play with this bug, but after some time it gets annoying for I have to restart oblivion over and over. Quickloading doesn't work either. Another recently installed mods are: Qarl's TP and All Natural.

Thank you very much.

OBSE does not change the game in any way. Mods that need it does, yet your report let suppose the former mods were not OBSE dependent so it's not the issue.

Some mods can make former saved games unplayable, often just changing the load order is enough to it. The reason most of times being things in the save that does not exist anymore or are 'wrong in relation with the newer', the culprit.

Addendum: removing mods can make the saves unplayable too.

You may need some utilities like Wrye's bash and or TES4Edit to identify what is missing or 'too much' and hope it can be corrected, else the solution is returning the situation where those saves works or begin anew.

Edit PS: If you are already playing and try to load another game, it's almost certain the crash if that save is in another cell, it's an old and known issue with the game engine itself. Just don't do it, quit the game and load the save you want from start.

yea, the saves aren't corrupted at all, but only the game crashes when using quickload or menus in-game. Only, quitting the game works, but its kinda frustrating cz any quit causes an immediate crash, so it takes a long time to restart the game. I wondered if there was some kinda fix for the in-game loading mechanism (without having to return to the main menu).

If you're used to using mods and plug-ins, get this. Its a crash prevention system that sort of sidesteps that issue. And a couple of others. Thing is, it sort of sidesteps it, it doesn't fix it completely. Oblivion, like all software, crashes mainly when the original coding has a problem. Unfortunately, its one thats damn near impossible to fix, so like it or not, even with WEOCPS, you're gonna have to quit eventually - it only delays the inevitable on this issue.

Its still a damn handy mod though.

Please note; Running weocps, you'll hear a ding! when it prevents a crash. Thats not a problem. Its intentional to let you know its stopped your computer commiting Oblivion homicide.

Happy hunting.

Though this thread is old, I can't see a solution. I'm experiencing the same problem. When starting Oblivion, I can load all my saves without problems. After going in-game, when trying to load a previously saved game (both via quickload and via regular load), the game crashes instantly to desktop (no error, no loading bar, just a black screen for a while).

Did anyone find a solution?

OBSE does not change the game in any way.

Are you sure?

What`s about save data = .obse save storage? This file contained data of obse based plugins (Enhanced Economy, for example)

and if you load older/newer save in game - this data is messed up.:whistling:

OBSE creates it's own save files, and naturally they contain OBSE data. That doesn't mean it "changes" the game. If OBSE isn't active then additional scripting commands are simply not present. Nothing more, nothing less. It's a Script Extender, hence the name, OBSE. I'm not sure what your point is here. Am I missing something?

The second issue is true, and is just a flaw with Oblivion mishandling data when reloading from in-game. Anytime you need to reload it's best to exit to desktop and just start over. At the minimum you should at least go to the Main Menu to reload, but even then you're likely to crash.

The solution is simple - "don't do that". It is a known problem with Oblivion - even completely vanilla (unmodded) Oblivion - to frequently crash either during or soon after a quick load of a save game. Always exit oblivion and relaunch it to load up a save game.

@Shadowfen: Well, if I had this issue in Vanilla, I wouldn't be concerned. As far as I realized now, I managed to find a problematic mod - Finite Ammo (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27731)

With this mod installed, I can not quickload in a running game and quickloading in a completely new game causes a black screen for a second. Without this mod, quickloading in a new game is immediate (no black screen), though I can not load a previously saved game, the game crashes when I try to.

I can't be sure it's all this mods fault (i have a LOT of mods including those for archery), but if anyone experiences the same problem as I did, he may find turning this mod off useful.
