Balanced housing and other immersion Q

Okay, I've been searching through all the player home mods out there, but can't for the life of me seem to find one that manages to be both balanced and immersive. Most player houses, even the most well-done ones, are filled with "convenience" items, like purifiers, wondermeat makers, rad-removers, etc, etc, without any need to work for it. Don't get me wrong, there's some amazing player housing mods out there, and I've used them happily in the past, but that's not what I'm looking for right now.

I want a balanced housing mod that meshes well with a higher-difficulty FWE run (I.e. custom equipment and weapons are a no-no). I don't want tools handed to me, I just want a nice housing alternative to the default megaton and tenpenny options. Any suggestions on that front would be appreciated.

My other question is a minor immersion nitpick. Is there a mod out there that changes the constant and gratuitous beheadings in this game? Seeing an enemy's head go flying, perfectly severed at the neck, is funny the first couple times. Less so on the 10,000th. Especially the weird way it decapitates enemies with little or no neck (mole-rats, etc.). Any good mods for improvement of these wounding graphics?

I utterly agree with you on the first point. I know that it's very tempting, but I try to just ignore the furniture additions and I either toss out or ignore the "bonus" items as well. If you are only mildly familiar with the GECK you can also just easily edit these things out.

As to your second point I've been using this mod for quite a while a it works pretty well for me: Less Gore.

Nifty, thanks! I'll give the Less Gore mod a shot.

Now how about an alternative housing mod that fits the feel of the world a bit better? All the good ones out there that I've see are nice, but just oh so very shiny. Are there any that have the slightly rusted, slightly run-down feel of the rest of the world?

Honestly, my dream mod would be a nice abandoned bunker somewhere. Probably looted, or maybe some automated defenses to deal with first, and then repairs, before being able to use it. But that's a big order, and if I want it, I'm sure I'll have to learn how to mod for myself.

Unlike you after combing the wastelands of what once was my beautiful nation I like to come home to a nice place with all of the comforts. But one mod that I did look at was A Home in Grayditch. It's centrally located and looks like a real fixer-upper. I kind of liked it except for the fact that it was a wreck. It did have atmosphere, though.

I've not used any yet, so this is just ones I've spotted that look good/fit in with fallout

Abrams Overpass Tent http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3290

Arefu House http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5616

Azraels Big Town House http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6692 although that's fully kitted out.

A Water Tower Hideout V1_1 http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2490

However I not seen any that have been made so you have to buy bits for them like the normal fallout houses.

Can someone explain what the draw is to player homes? I just don't understand it. What do you do in them? Sit on a sofa and watch a blank TV screen. Go to the fridge and grab a beer or some scotch and drink it? Whoopee! Then what? You don't even need the beds in them as there is an overabundance of them all around the wasteland. I can understand someone wanting to build one with the Geck as its an easy enough mod to learn with. But from a game stand point, unless there are 10 quests that revolve around the house, why would you hang out there. Wouldn't that end up being boring?

Outside of dropping off bobble heads and a few weapons that I'll probably never use in the game anyway (cause there is so much loot in this game), I rarely go to my player home. I'd rather be out adventuring than looking at my collection of pre-war money piled up on my bed.

No offense to Hugepinball either (who made Feng Shui), but I can't understand why someone would want to arrange a collection of something in their apartment either, unless they had OCD or something. What's the point?

It's an RP/immersion thing for me, honestly. I don't spend much game time in a home, but it's important that my character HAS one. And of course, it's a useful safe place to store things, like all the massive amount of junk I accumulate in the wasteland because I'm a horrible packrat.

I'm exactly the same, in both the original games the main reason I had followers was to use them as pack mules.

and leaveing any corpse unrobbed or fileing cabinate unlooted just goes against my nature.

I also hord bottle cap, guns and ammo like I going to be opening my own arsanle & bottleing plant.

I’m the same. I don’t use the Player homes to rest in it’s just a place to store stuff and leave the odd companions when I want to play a loner for a while. There are lots of places to rest and it’s more immersive to think about a safe place to spend the night or recuperate without going back to a Player house.
