Okay so here it goes....

I've been making a mod using The GECK on windows Vista. I haven't been running the GECK as an administrator. So when I finally do the mod I was working on doesn't show up on the list of files. But when I dont run the GECk as an administrator the mod shows up. The problem here is I can't test my mod if I don't run it as an administrator because the game file doesn't show up when I click data files on the fallout launcher. If anyone could tell me how to make my mod show up when I run GECK as an administrator please tell me. I'm in huge need of help. Thanks!

Is your mod saved in your user folder, or in the Fallout 3\Data folder? The case of the missing .esp makes sense if the esp lives in your user folder rather than Fallout 3\Data where it should be.

Did you install Fallout in the 'programe files' directory?

Apparently, vista protects all files in this directory, so anything that creates or changes files, is classed as harmfull(i.e changing your games files) and is stopped from modifying\creating files.

I moved all my games too the C:\Games directory, after countless tries to get my mods for other games to work.

So, just try cutting and pasting your bethesda file(with all the fallout files included inside it) from 'programe files' into the 'games' directory, and that should work.

If your fallout directory isnt in programe files, then this post was for nothing

Make a NEW folder C:\Games\Fallout3. Put it there.

A simple copy or move may not work. You may have to reinstall it to the new location.

I will try to do a test on this later today to see if it works or not. If it does, I will write it up as an article for future reference.

Here it is, a link to my new article on how to move Fallout 3 without having to reinstall.

For Vista and Win7 users who originally installed in the default location and now have problems with getting mods or other stuff to work. It lets you keep all of your saves and your ini settings also.

Feel free to pass it on to whoever needs it.

Link to bben's easy moving Fallout 3 without having to reinstall.

Intended for Win7 and Vista users.
