Shinoshan
I'm "fairly new" to fallout 3 and NV. I've never completed the story and have not explored more then 30% or so of the map. I only recently learned about how drastically the mods change the game. I'm basically looking for someone who has tried a lot of mods to give me the straight dope. What are the must have mods, that just makes the game. Let me be clear. I'm not looking for a nice house somewhere, or anything that sacrifices immersion or lore for convenience. I want the best possible experience of my play through, that compliments the main story and gives the a high degree of immersion and difficulty. I'm sure I could figure this out with trial and error, with the most popular mods, but there must be some of you that could pin it down to the essentials in a few minutes. Can any of you give me the experience, you wish, you had the first time you played the game?
Nozzer66
Mart's Mutant Mod, Darnified UI and Fallout Wanderers Edition for mine. MMM and FWE will help with difficulty and immersion, and Darn UI just makes things so damn easy... I'd also recommend Gopher's videos on You Tube where he has a whole series on FO3 nodding, and most of the mods he shows in that could also be on any essential mods list. Shinoshan
Ok I've seen through most of it. It was pretty well done and essentially answered most of my questions. Thanks. Before I embark on this epic journey, I'd like to know if there are any more optional mods you'd highly recommend. Things that really donesn't take away from the normal fallout, Any quest mods that are voiceacted and well scripted, that doesn't give overpowered rewards or ruin the normal game in anyway? Are there any mods that elaborate on locations, that doesn't add on shops with "overpowered" products compared to your relative level and discovery time in the game, or otherwise "ruin it", that you could recommend? Freso
I'm pretty new to FO3 too, but a few of the smaller mods that I already cannot live without:Pipboy displays twice as fast: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/20458Pipboy lights switches on/off faster: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/3253 (these two just make the game/using the Pipboy feel a bit snappier) Exit terminals with Q: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/19591 (there are generally too many things that you cannot exit easily (ie., in one click) with the keyboard, this is just a small step on improving on that, but it is a step)) Dynamic crosshair: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/15724 (this is on the edge, I guess, a possibly better alternative is to use the iron sights mod, but I haven't tried that yet - the two can supposedly also work together) Weapon scanner: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/8323 (to get proper information about weapons - this is already inclided in the Wanderer's Edition, so don't install this if you're going for an FWE setup) Updated unofficial patch: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/19122 - all the Bethesda Gamebryo games have these unofficial patches, and there's really no good reason to not use them, yet they don't seem to feature as prominently in FO3 listings as they do for e.g., Skyrim. I'm using plenty of other mods, but they're mostly already covered by various "must have" lists out there (e.g., Gopher's videos ).
M48A5
For some reason I forgot to list this one, Metro Carriage Interiors http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/19988/? It will add hours to your game play. Also, Interior Respawn http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/1252/?
7thsealord
Emphatically second (or third, or fourth .... ) DCInteriors. If you could only put ONE mod into your FO3 game, this would have to be it. Busworld adds (varying) interiors to all Buses and Railway carriages. Original - http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/4736/? , and Improved English Translation (plus some fixes) - http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/13064/? . If you think Talon Company needs to be less of a joke, this mod gives them Power Armor and other extra gear - http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/5483/? Uncle Shub's Salad Scissors provides a variety of new melee weapons for Raiders and other folk -http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/15445/? . Historical Items & Action Figures provides an assortment of weapons, costumes and artifacts (with backstory) scattered around different places - http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/17676/? Despicable Dashwood adds a lot to Daring Dashwood's backstory, including a bunch of different weapons and other items (some quite high-powered) to be found in various places. http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/13883/?
