Jakoblade
I bought the game of the year edition of Fallout 3, installed Disc 1 in my laptop, that went swell; then I insert Disc 2 and everytime I run it the program freezes and does not respond anymore of its own free will. So yeah, I need help this sucks. I restarted my laptop, tried everything. I start it from My Computer and it screws up.
BossDweebe
Just a stab -Your not low on HDD space are you ? What are the specs for the laptop ?A lot of people are expecting too much from their laptops, unfortunately, many/most have integrated graphics. Integrated graphics really don't cut it with system intensive games. Most of the game settings would have to be low.I lot of newer laptops have gpu's with a series number that may be impressive if it were on a dedicated card, but theyshare the system RAM when on board, and this is a major drawback. pkleiss
Is this a case of your PC not recognizing the disk in the drive? Because that is a common problem. If you disk is being recognized but the install program crashes, then I have no idea. But if after you put the DLC (disk 2) into the drive and nothing happens, there are three suggested solutions: 1) Try installing disk 2 in safe mode2) Just keep re-inserting the disk repeatedly until it is finally recognized (this is what worked for me after 13 tries)3) Just insert the disk and go make something to eat and watch a TV show, eventually it will load. I have heard people say this works but they had to wait over 1/2 an hour.

Win 7 does not play nice with XP.I do recall now you mention it. I had a disc go 'round and 'round like that too. I think it was when I was trying to use the second disc for The Witcher. pkleiss
If you are asking me if I have Win 7, then no. I have XP. If you are asking the OP, then sorry for this useless post... The 'not being able to read disk 2 of the GOTYE version' is a very common problem though. I think they just used very crappy DVDs for the second disk, but I don't really know for sure. Skotte
<SNIP>I think they just used very crappy DVDs for the second disk, but I don't really know for sure. I have a different theory. I think the problem is that unlike disc 1, the installer for the DLC doesn't use external ".cab" files so the computer has to load the whole 2.03 GB file into memory before it can even run whereas with Fallout3 a computer only loads a small installer then seems to take from the cab files as needed,

Nimboss
As a general from putting in G.O.T.Y. DLC DVD in with: Windows XP in this case with McAfee -> 2 minutes before you get the auto install choice. Also with XP and holding shift when inserting DVD 10-15 sec and you have to start the .EXE file by yourself from file explorer. Windows Vista -> 3.5 minutes before auto install prompt (shift not working any more, Microsoft just must know what fun media files you have on the DVD). Windows7 -> 3 minutes before auto install prompt (and alike Vista no shift shortcut). The "bad" choice Bethesda did was to put everything in a huge 2 GB .EXE file, normally you choose a little installer app. 4-5 MB and have one big or some big packed content files that will be opened and installed from the installer app. So if you are in a hurry choose Windows XP hold down shift and when your DVD drive settles pick file manually and you saved close to 2 minutes of you're life
Burnagirl
If it's the GOTY edition then in all probability it's the lousy disk - I had this problem when I used both Vista and then when I switched over to Windows 7 it was the same old ................ On my first installation - I inserted the disk about 10 times then did the activating of the file manually etc .... nothing, so I re-inserted it and went away and made some coffee .... 5 minutes later, it read the disk (you have to wait)and then it installed.
