Custom Follower Facial Features Not Correct (New to Creation Kit)

I've only recently started using the Creation Kit and one of the simplest things to start with seems to be creating your own follower. I have been able to do with with relative success up to a certain point. The way I've done it is by using the in-game character creator (Which I have the RaceMenu mod for, I believe) and then use the "spf" command to get the facial features out. The problem occurs later. I know to hit ctrl+f4 and the textures aren't the issue. The issue is that the facial features aren't right. The followers are really just for me and I load up the .esms and .esps I need in the Creation Kit to apply custom hair and what-not, but the facial features just go back to the default for the race. If I were to choose a Breton and the default nose on the first preset were to be wide and I decide to make is narrower, then the character appearance I would desire would have a narrow nose. Only, when I import the .npc file from my game the nose isn't narrow, it just goes back to being the default wide. It doesn't keep the facial features I chose. So, my question is this: Why are the facial features of the npcs/followers I make not appearing correctly? Why are they just reverting back to a preset?

I do, indeed. I used the spf command and got the .npc file, but any time I try to import a one of these into the Creation Kit, it just reverts back to the first preset of the race, instead of keeping my changes. If I make changes in the Creation Kit from here, I can re-import it and it will revert back to the preset. I don't know why it won't keep the changes.

What do you mean? I save the character within Skyrim BEFORE making changes? I made the character first and once I had it made the way i liked, I used the spf (name) command to get the .npc. It just won't import correctly.

Yes. Establish and name the character. Save the file. Now you have a character to work on. At this point you can either make changes to the character file directly, or create a preset with the face, hair, etc. you want, save that and then apply it to the character. For a pc, I recommend the Preset method. For an NPC, I recommend directly manipulating the NPC file. Good luck.
