Why everyone thinks that the Empire is bad?

I never said that Empires NEVER use force. I said that they resolve far more problems through the use of diplomacy and politics. What we see in Skyrim is actually a far more common mechanism used by Empires, lending token military command to local supporters and using THEIR armies to crush dissidents. This tactic has been used extensively by every empire that has ever existed, and was in fact the primary means by which the 3 greatest (Rome, Mongol and British) spread their borders.

Second, It's measured in months. Its 13 WEEKS to go from Riverhold to Whiterun, according to Arena. The trip from Riverwood to Whiterun is 200 MILES. To make it from Whiterun to Riften, by Caravan, it took Barenziah a month.

I busted down the door of the dark brotherhood and slaughtered them all during my first playthrough but this time I joined them simply because the empire tried to kill me and the world eater saved my head at the last second. Someone had to be held accountable for that too bad it couldn't be whatshername 2nd potato to tullius but the emporer did just fine paying for the empires crimes against me this time. Wish there was a way or a cinematic sequence based on dialogue choices where the player could punch her out or tullius too for the attempted beheading instead of joining the dark brotherhood. Dufont can still be killed anyway and the other npcs don't really deserve to die someone should make a mod for that:-)

The empire I guess had to appear weak and desperate in this game since the thalmor have them by the balls and hopefully someday we get a game where the thalmor are eradicated or at least beaten so badly they never come back to skyrim. Empire armors kinda suck too since the only good armor they have is heavy and none of them have any pants so it may be easier to take a dump in the field and drain your dragon hehe but it probably gets really cold "down there" while in skyrim don't forget also being a tempting target for a snake bite in the worst place possible. When I join the empire to end the civil war I don't even wear the armor they give me I just stick it in a box in proudspire somewhere.

I think if we could have instead seen hold armies or joined a hold army instead of joining the empire to end the civil war that would have been more interesting. The player could still have to report to some imperial commander at some point where there is some imperial involvement like for the end of the civil war quest line so one npc commander from whatever hold army you joined and tullius go rushing in with you to kill ulfric leave whatshername at solitude rikke yeah thats her, can't stand her. My name isn't on the list and it doesn't matter huh? well the almighty console commands will decide her fate then:-)

I don't know if you know this or not.... but the Sergeant that sends you "to the block"....isn't Legate Rikke.

You actually kill that Sergeant if you escape with Ralof.

Correct. If you escape with Ralof, one of those two Imperials you kill is the Captain that coldly sent you to the block over Hadvar's (admittedly weak) objections. So, revenge pretty much taken since Tullius let her make the decision. Sure, it would be nice if the first time you journey to Solitude and waltz into Castle Dour (on that subject, does imperial security in that castle suck or what?) you could walk up to Tullius and have a brief conversation tree that went something like:

Dragonborn: "Remember me at Helgen? Still want to take my head for nothing more than walking on the road?"

Tullius (if you escaped with Hadvar): "Calm down mister. Legionnaire Hadvar tendered a report about you, and the Captain died during the razing of Helgen -so the matter is settled. Unless you want to make some new trouble about it?"

Tullius (if you escaped with Ralof): "Calm down you insolent whelp. You clearly managed to escape with your hide intact. A lot of other people didn't. Including the Captain of the execution detail -so the matter is settled. Unless you want to make some new trouble about it?"

Yeah, that would be awesome.

Uhm, what were we talking about? Something about evil empires?

No, at least not any worse than any other keep/castle/palace in Skyrim.

And I see why the OP thinks that people hate the Empire - so do I - because it honestly seems like 99.9% of anyone who ever played Skyrim and played the CW quests at all sided with the Stormcloaks - of all the people I know who played Skyrim, I'm 1 of 2 who supported the Empire. And IDK about anyone else, but on pretty much any vaguely Skyrim-related forum, I hardly ever see any pro-Imperial signatures. Pro-Stormcloak signatures, though, they're pretty common.

I support the Empire, because I think uniting to make a stand against the Tamrielic equivalent of Nazi Germany is more important than crying about which of your (excessive) 9 gods you're temporarily not legally allowed to worship. That, and the Stormcloaks are racist, Nord supremacist pigs.

200 miles, 13 weeks?

At Njimegen, we covered 1/2 that distance in just 4 days, with loaded rucks. 2 weeks tops, assuming you are having to fight off wolves 3-4 times a day.

On horseback, even if he's pulling a wagon - 10 days tops. That stretch from Riverwood to Whiterun is about as flat as it gets.
