MadMonkey119
So, after a while with my fallout 3 always crashing to desktop on startup I decided i was gonna fix it. Deleted texture folder, meshes, etc... because of a guide to fix it. It did not work. So I opened up FOMM and it doesnt show Fallout3.esm being loaded. I think I may have deleted it somewhere long the way! If anyone has any suggestions or the file to let me download that would help! Possibly a original data folder? Thanks! Nihilisaurus
Re-install time... Either that or fish it out of recycle bin.
MadMonkey119
Ugh, I currently dont have the disk to reinstall from, is there a way to get the file online? And I searched through the recycle bin already!

That file is copyright protected by Bethesda. Uploading it here is against the User Agreement. Without the disks you may just have to purchase another copy. MadMonkey119
Oh no. Well thanks anyway... EDIT: Where would the fallout3.esm be located?

Rabbit Most sites will let you down load the game a couple of times in case you need to do a reinstall. You might want to just check the place you bought it from and see if down loading and reinstalling it is a option.
CorrodedSoul
just for the sake of correctness, all the esm, esp and bsa file go INTO the data folder, this is true for morrowind, oblivion and fallout
bben46
On your computer the Fallout3.esm should be located in the Fallout 3\data folder. Do a search for Fallout 3.* and fallout3.* to see if you have misplaced it.The vanilla (unmodified) game data folder should have the followingMusic (folder)Shaders (folder)Video (folder)Credits.txt - a text file, not necessary, but very smallFallout-MenuVoices.bsaFallout-Meshes.bsaFallout-Misc.bsaFallout-Sound.bsaFallout-Textures.bsaFallout-Voices.bsaFallout3.esm Notice there is NO Textures folder and NO Meshes folder as these are not created until you install a mod that needs them.If any of these except the credits are missing, you should consider reinstalling. Then make a copy of the new \data folder somewhere outside of the fallout folders as a backup. If you had that now you would be able to just copy over what you didn't have

Im running the search now and made sure I had the folders and the BSA files. The only thing I need to find is the Fallout 3.esm! EDIT: Also is it possible there is a mod that overwrites the Fallout3.esp? Something big like FOOK or something?
bben46
Not very likely. the fallout3.esm is what the mods make changes to. Without that there will be many many things missing from the game.
