The Boots of Blinding Speed

Hello everyone! I was playing Morrowind when I noticed something rather strange: The boots of blinding speed do not blind me when I am outdoors. Nor does the "Light" spell work out in the open. Everything works properly indoors, though. To sum up:

 

1. If I wear the boots outside, I don't get blind.

 

2. If I wear the boots outside, and then go inside, I am still not blind.

 

3. If I wear the boots inside, I get blind.

 

4. If I wear the boots inside and then go out, I am automatically un-blinded as soon as I am outdoors.

 

Now, I know I should be grateful that I can wear the boots of blinding speed without any penalty, but it does feel somehow as if I were cheating. Note that I have no magical resistance whatsoever, or at least it's not listed in my special powers list. I am playing a Nord.

 

I have installed Daerk's Realistic Colour Config for Morrowind (RCC4MW) plugin, and I know it changes outside lighting, so I am wondering whether it could depend on that.

 

Any help is appreciated. Not that I mind having the Boots of Blinding Speed free of that annoying blind effect, but, well, I want to play fair ;)

Sounds like a pretty cool little bug to me, and hey, if you didn't do it, it ain't cheating! However, I have another question for you, are you running any other plug-ins that could possibly affect the Bobs? It might have to do with the RCC4MW, but I wouldn't know, cuz I don't use that one.

Yes, its the plugin. If not that, then some other plugin you've got. The boots work normally for me (blinded outside just as much as inside). I'd assume that this plugin does something to the "blind" effect unintentionally. And since you say the light spell doesn't work either, it really sounds like that color config thing has some odd side effects.

No, I am not actually running any plugin that may alter the way

the BOBS work, besides the RCC4MW. Or at least, I am not running any plugin meant to alter the way the BOBS work. If they do as a side effect, I can't say, but I seriously doubt that, because they're mostly concerned with other things. (usually graphics, sounds, and bug fixes.)

 

However... the RCC4MW is great anyway, so maybe I'll keep it even if I find out that it's the mod causing the problem. And if I really feel bad about wearing the BOBS with no side effects, I can... *SIGH* do without ;)

I just restarted my game and got the BOBS of the woman (what a stupid quest) and i was wondering is there any way to enchant them not to blind you? I'm going back to Galadri-whatever but just wanted to see if its been a wasted journey.

 

And noone suggest using the console,

Depending on your magicka skills, specifically restoration, you can build a 100% Resist Magic for 3 seconds spell with a spellmaker. Cast the spell and immediately don the Boots. If you are a Breton you only need 50%.

alternatively you could enchant a set of clothing with magicka resist constant effect, then u just use the spell for the rest (3 seconds isnt gunna get u very far, even with BOBS) tho this would no doubt be extremely expensive.

Unless one of the recent patches changed this, once you have resisted the Blinding spell it doesn't return. Personally I don't use the damned things because their armor rating and durability is so low.

 

The Resist Magic skill is very costly in terms of Enchant ponts. IIRC a Daedric tower Shield can only hold 20 or so points worth - even less than Fortify Atrribute.

I happen to know this because I wanted to give my Redguard warrior 40% Resist Magic in an enchantment to stack with the 60% from the Savior's Hide Cuirass so I could play the Corprus trick. I couldn't even get 0 - 40% on that shield.
