runlvlzero
Further update, after much extensive testing I have no idea...this could even be graphics related... I spent a few hours running through COC testing hall messing with stuff with the above load order no... problems. I typed player.coc anvilhorsewhisperer then ran my merry way to the CTD spot and bamn... some dear come on screen and the game crashes... I hate to say this but either oblivion, OBSE, or one of these wonderful mods is too unstable... I'm gonna say oblivion's stability is poor but this is just horrible... The #1 design vision for this game was "customization" if they were following in Morrowind's footsteps. I know that you guys making these mods are not poor scripters/programmers that make blatant errors and don't test anything at all. So anyway folks, I think its time to put this game on the shelf... As they say So long and thanks for all the fish.

NO UNOFFICIAL PATCHES LOL! YAY You are probably right in presuming that this is a mod conflict. I assure you that the UOP was tested thoroughly. OBSE is far from unstable, but I cannot say the same for all mods that use it. The UOP does not only fix a few bugs, and it is worth having the UOP installed by itself without any other mods, for users that just want the vanilla experience. peter1962
On a clean fresh install of Oblivion (only mods are skip tutorial) I get a CTD EVERY time on the road from Kvatch to Anvil (a few steps past the intersction of the road to Kvatch) when using UOP hotfix 325 or 326. Only solution was to use UOP 320 ONLY. Never tried from Anvil to Skingrad. I figure it is just one of those things that someone will figure out somewhere down the road.I have Win7 Pro 64 bitATI 4850 video card with latest drivers. Arthmoor
WHO KNOWS... the unofficial patches only fix a few "maybe crash bugs" that aren't really a problem if you don't exploit the game in any wierd manner... All I'm going to say to this is that it's patently untrue. If you don't understand what it is the UOP fixes, you stand little hope of understanding why your game is breaking either. I do not recall this crash when I was only running the UOP (my first mod) and OOO (one of my other first mods) and a few other mods (again, first mods.) It came at some point as I started using more mods, and I have noticed it for the longest period of time while using 3.2.0. I would not say that this problem is related to a specific mod or mod combination at all. Oblivion's quirks are all exacerbated as your mod list expands. Go to this link. http://www.baldurdash.org/TESOblivion/UOPFixList.html In firefox hit CTRL F and search for CRASH "Crash" is found almost exclusively in lines refering to were the UOP itself had to be fixed to prevent crashes. Down below in the UOP Changes Fixes section. THE UOP DOES NOT MAKE OBLIVION MORE STABLE. Thanks =) And don't assume I have not done my research or tested thoroughly. I used the UOP for the longest time, upto 3.2.0, Never before have I noticed so much trouble from it. I played the X360 version of oblivion for a long time and had no issues with anything the UOP's "FIX". I am simply stating that in respect to stability I would rather not use it in lew of my other mods. IF i was not using all those other mods and UOP was running stably, I would run it. Anyway I respect anyone who wants to use it. And I appreciate that you and that Q guy put allot of effort into it. Maybe if I'm not willing to dig into TES4 Construction set and find the specific conflicts I have no right to post my complaints about this issue... maybe... Anyway thanks for taking your time to point out my inability to properly install mods based on some arbitrary logic and the poor use of the word "Patently" http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/patently. I'm guessing that my troubleshooting methods are patently obsurd? If your an expert I would very much appreciate any tips, programs or links to properly troubleshoot these types of crashes... got a disassembler that's able to decode oblivion? What do you expect from the "average user"? And by no means am I just an average computer user, I may be a bit rusty and old, but I could very well be an A+ hacker compared to you. What do you expect from the "average user"? And by no means am I just an average computer user, I may be a bit rusty and old, but I could very well be an A+ hacker compared to you.The UOP does make Oblivion more stable. It is one of the most widely-used mods, and there would be a lot more comments about the UOP causing crashes, if that were not the case. I am not saying that this plugin is perfect, but it would be more helpful if you posted problems you find in the thread for the UOP Supplemental. It would be quicker for you to find conflicts with it (and your load order in general) using TES4Edit. If you find the cause for this crash, whether or not the conflict is the UOP or a combination of mods used with it, please post in that thread. Random: Arthmoor is not exactly an average mod maker either, and you misspelled "absurd"...just saying... ;) The personal references are not relevant to the issue. If you find something to report, please let us know. It would be helpful to many more than yourself. Also, if you want to see places where the UOP fixes things, all of which you have somehow missed, browse the the UESP Wiki, and look at various vanilla quests. It fixes many bad meshes and other sorts of things. If you look at the mod's structure, you can see that for yourself. The reason I started using mods was because I saw that it fixed various issues that I ran into while playing the vanilla game. Many users are not as fortunate as yourself, such that they are able to miss or ignore many of the problems in the vanilla game. Stability is not only about crashes, but I guess you know that already... Edit: The first instance of "crash" (since you suggested looking) appears in the FIX log of the twelfth release. UOP 3.2.0 is the fourteenth release.
chaospearl
Whoa... not about to get into the back-and-forth on this one. I'm sure we're all mature people here and can give each other advice in a mature manner. Heh. Anyway. I wanted to mention that I use the Fran's + MMM setup and I've never found it to be inherently unstable. I have from time to time run into those issues where you immediately CTD upon entering a specific cell, but I've always been able to resolve them by either running my load order through BOSS, or performing a clean save without any mods and then playing from that save after reinstalling all my mods. And actually, I've never had an issue at all that was related to Fran's -- perhaps I'm lucky. My most recent CTD problem was being caused by a conflict of MMM with something else that I never identified; I got rid of the issue by totally deactivating MMM, saving my game without it, then reinstalling MMM and playing from that save. I play Oblivion on a laptop (yes, you heard me) with a 2.1 GHz Intel Core2 Duo, NVIDIA Quadro 140, and 4GB RAM. At the moment I'm running the UOP, Fran's, MMM and all the available DLC, plus about 250 other mods including some heavy AI-adding quest mods such as TOTF, HOTD and Verona House. Among others. My game crashes about every 3 to 4 hours of consecutive play. Given the crappy machine and inherent Oblivion instability, I believe that's pretty damn good. I suppose it's possible that I'm in a minority or something, that I'm lucky Fran's + MMM don't cause me any problems. I don't know. I do know that it is definitely possible to run that combo (along with a hell of a lot of other mods AND on a sub-par machine) without constant CTDs. I've been from Kvatch to Anvil and back many times without ever hitting that common CTD, so whatever is causing it, it doesn't ALWAYS happen EVERY time if you're running Fran's + MMM + UOP. It's never happened to me, period. I probably haven't helped you any. I suppose I just wanted to poke my nose in and give some support to my favorite mods! I adore Fran's and MMM both; the combo is perfectly suited to my play style and keeps the things I love about Oblivion (being able to tackle almost any dungeon at any level) while fixing the things I hate (road bandits sporting full Daedric by level 15). Good luck with your game.
