stupid question regarding win7

Recommended Posts

Stupid and quick question. I switched from Vista to win 7 ultimate and want to install the game. I know that a normal default would go to the (x86) prog files dir.. but I want to use mods obviously so I would like to install to a non GWFL related directory. Can I just install it to C:\Fallout3 ?? Obviously this might cause it to try and treat is as an x64 based program.. but perhaps I can tell it manually to run as 32 bit?

Thanks.

I'm running Win7 and have Fallout3 installed in c:\Fallout3. I play with no problems.

I recommend installing to C:\Games\Fallout3

That way, you will gave a folder (\games) to use for any other game that needs to be outside of the protected program files. And the Fallout3 will be in it's own folder.

So, Oblivion would be installed into C:\Games\Oblivion

NewGame into C:\Games\NewGame

This keeps all games in the same place but separated. Then you can create a shortcut for each game and place it on the desktop.

If you install Fallout to C:\Fallout3, then every other game to its own C:\GameName you will have game folders scattered around the C: file list. By creating a folder - C:\Games to hold game folders it simplifies things.

One mess I helped sort out was someone installed Oblivion into C:\Games expecting it to create the oblivion folder. then installed Fallout3 into C:\Games. So the 2 games were intermixed and some files were overwritten - neither game worked.
