"outdated" save games

I was playing normally, autosaving very often as i am used to (because of the game crashes.) and the power went off right in the middle of a save.

Now i can't load the saves, because an error message pops up saying "savegame cannot be loaded because its outdated. its version is -1 and the current version is 48." (exact message)

i can imagine that the computer suddendly turning off may have caused this, but i was wondering if there was a way to recover the files.

It is also to be noted that, while i have the game in Italian, the error message is in english.

Thank you in advance for the help :)

Nope, corrupt file, prrobably only saved hlaf the data. In future ave via console to get lots of saves that don't overwrite, it's a bit of an HDD hog, but if you delete most of them every now and then, keeping a few in a ZIP/RAR you'll never lose much progress. Just hit ` (top left, above tab and left of 1) and type (without "s) "save [something with no spaces in and that won't overwrite]".

oh. Well, this is sad. I really liked that character & and i had played a lot with her. It's amazing what a combination of bad luck, horrible luck and an even worse electricity sistem can do to someone's time. But thank you for your suggestion, i will try and save like that in the future.

and now you have learned just one of the many reasons we don't rely upon Auto/Quicksaves

If you feel you must use them

use them between real hard saves

and keep literally thousands of saves to fall back upon

for just such emergencies

later you will learn about scripting klashes that need these same saves to recover from

so start early

the headache you will save

will be your own.

BTW, the renaming trick from the previous post is your best hope at this time, but it can be a little tricky to do depending upon your operating system's settings. If it tries to hairball you, try using " <- quote marks -- in the name
