hi mates, well seems oblivion is a nice game . first i thought npcs all look same and have no life but they actually differ and go eat, sleep, work etc like in gothic2, nice. (and i further enhanced it with "life simulation" mod).

but i have questions left:

a) im new, went to complete the first quest about this amulett, arrived in this town and there was a stable, a stable boy was inside but nevertheless i was able to mount a horse and ride away....no penalty for that?

and if im on horse i cant fight, right?

and how can i store items in my horse?

and why my horse stays out of town if i enter, because its not bought?

b) i cant cancel lockpicking attempts and i cant automatically do them.

if i pick a lock my mouse is not activated anymore , stucked to the lockpick and i only can move the lockpick up and down, cant click on automatically or cancel, any hotkeys or hints for that?

and im right in just picking the lock randomly or is sucess bigger if i find out a certain order in picking that lock?

c) isnt it possible to have an innate lightsource radius around my character?

all persons inside houses that i talk to are so dark, because i dont want to always wear this torch and well it disturbs me, i know its realistic and back in the mdidle ages people didnt had that much light everywhere in all rooms like nowadays but hey i dont want to play a dark game and look into dark faces all the time :)

easiest way would be kind of setting a light radius around me, like 1,5m around my toon.

but how?

thx so much, love this game

A) no you cnnot attack from your horse (damned bethsoft they'll make us pay for it) although it IS vary stupid of them to forget it. It would hav been fixed by the community by now but the animations are hard-coded and can't be altered (at least thets what someone told me). There is a mod for storing stuff in your horse as well as a cheating method of killng - storing - opening console (press ~) and writing resurrect with the horse targeted by moue. The mod is called saddlebags and is here: http://www.tessource.net/files/cache/2219.html

Another horse mod is here: http://www.tessource.net/files/cache/2806.html

about your horse staying out of town nothing can be done apart from summoning it inside with the first mod I gave you. Otherwise it goes back home (if it survives that is.)

B)Try moveing your cursor. A lot. Like to th other side of your desk. The pointer is there but its hidden (bethsoft knows why). You don't have more chances of opening a lock if you do it in a certain order but if you improve your security skill tumblers will take more time to fall down and after some training less of them will fall if you fail.

C)The light source is impossible BUT you can relatively easily cast a light spell or nchant a weapon or minor item with light or get an item from the mods database. ( its here: http://www.tessource.net/files/cache/index.html )

Additional info:

a) You get a small bounty on your head for stealing a horse, as with other theft, if you're found out. The bounty can be paid off to any guard to absolve you of your crime.

c) You can have an innate lightsource on your character through the spell-effect "light", either by casting a light-spell or by wearing an item enchanted with it. However, an alternative that'd brighten up most interiors is acquiring the mod "Better lighting & better torches" which you can get at http://www.tessource.net/files/cache/2607.html There's also a whole slew of other mods I'd recommend, but that's not the topic of this thread.

a) (SLIGHT SPOILER) For some reason, bethesda decided to give players a free horse. Speak to Prior Mabriel and he will tell you that you can use his horse. He dies a short way into the main quest anyway.

My impression so far is that you only get the bounty if you are seen getting on the horse that doesn't belong to you. I do not think you will get the bounty if someone just sees you on the horse. I've had the experience where I found a legionary horse with the legionaire dead and rode it to a nearby town. No hassle from the guards when I arrived and got off. But that all ended when I went to get back on. I guess it's consistent with other stolen goods where it's only a problem if you are seen taking them (and of course you loose all stolen when apprehended by a guard for any reason.) So steal your horses out of sight. As a hint, horses do seem to be low level creatures as far as level for spells go ;-).

My characters strictly leave red-hand items alone (unless necessary for a quest), so I've never stolen a horse. So I can't verify this ... but my understanding is the horse can't see you either, and you have to sneak up on it. Could it simply be that you grabbed the Prior's horse before you realized he gave it to you already?
