Music Choice

I enjoy punk rock music when I am listening to music. But I also listen to many different styles of music that most of the other people I know would not accept very openly. I enjoy smooth jazz, pop, classical, etc. It more depends on what mood I'm in. When I wanna get pumped up for something , I listen to punk rock (which I listen to the most commonly and enjoy the most). When I want to relax, I listen to jazz or classical. When I just am bored, I listen to pop, since I just don't care at that point. So I say what music you like is more dependent on what mood your in. But than again, there are some people that only like one kind of music.

I agree that Music is personal in what is "good music" or "bad music", but isn't everything? I mean is Strawberry Ice-cream good or bad? really Asking if Rap is in general good music is far too general of a question to be anwsered with out 80,000,000,000 diffrent thesis on every little variable.

Acrid, you cannot simply start a new topic in the middle of an existing one! The opening statement is your opinion and is valid as a post. Leave it at that. If you want to ask a question on the content of Rap - don't do it here! It's called thread hijacking.

[Well im sitting here in my dad's office and i can hear my sister's usher cd and its really starting to wear on me. Of course it would be stupid of me to generalize against rap in general but its true that i have never heard any rap song with any kind of good meaning behind it. I think music is incredibly important in life and it inspires me more than anything else. I think that soon the whole rap phase is going to pass and be remembered as a phase as ridiculous as roller disco. I was wondring if you felt the same way or if maybe im just a nutcase

Actually if you look at the original post I am right on subject. Also I made a statment on my veiw of how to judge music, so it reply's to the recent post, as for my question it was a detailed question that had to ask specific information to be relevent, I used rap, since it was the nature of the original post. I could have used other types of music just the same. My point was Music choice breaks down to many variables. it can not be figured out without a specific question. Sorry for the misinterpretation.

Classical music used to be the normal thing to listen to way back when ever, Now while still there are many who still do (like me) it is past it's time. Rap has been around for too long to vanish like disco. while rap may not be as popular one day replaced by another form of music, it will always have it's fans. I personaly like Rock/Techno and death metal (that hard core satan worshiping stuff), much of my music isn't very popular as it used to be. Rap is art, all music even pop is art. You think of Pop music as fake (I hate it too) but isn't a movie? Movies are almost all fake but are still considered a form of art, it's called performing art's. Now the diffrence between the fake music or "music with no soul" some might say it is art but the artist really is not expressing his/her/it's self, just performing, (whatever expression there is in that is very shallow). Now lets say old school metalica that has expression, So you could say that is good art because it expresses emotion. I suppose the argument with Rap is that the Rappers all Rap about the same thing, I agre on this lately, old school rap had some talent in it and though I can't relate to it, I sence it had expression. Modern day "gangsta" rap has become popular because it's the fad of today, not because of it's ability to move people. the only effect most modern rap has on it's listners is to want to be "gangsta". Now I'm not a phycologist(sp?) can't even spell it, but it seem sto me that gangster rap influences violent behaver, making it's listners want to be street tough, only they make the streets suck. I might be over judging rap's infulence, it's just what it seems like to me.

  • 4 weeks later...

 I have no defined taste but generally enjoy anything which tells a story...

It may be that our personal tastes change, but the one thing I cannot stand is some band doing a "cover" version of another... which seems to be the trend of late... where's the originality?... where's the art? :veryangry:

Oh... and CREED rulz!!!! :D

when i was younger i used to listen to the dodgy techno stuff, then i moved into bands like Iron Maiden and Slayer both were the kings of Heavy Metal in the late 1980's, excluding metallica, ive lost faith in them since St. Anger...a horrible album.

then i moved on to the much much more heavier stuff, Cannibal Corpse, Decapitated (my modder name ;) ) Naglfar, Marduk, Borknagar, Hate Eternal, Lamb Of God and so on.

before i got into the death/black metal scene i listened to a genre known as Industrial, bands like the early [/b]Nine Inch Nails in 1996, and KMFDM in 1994-96, lead the scene, KMFDM being a more light hearted music, not deep, just something good to listen to, yet still remaining to keep the distorted noises and whacked vocals in.

and the king of all kings on the industrial scene, the inventors and pioneers, Skinny Puppy, this band began in canada (i envy you people) at the year of 1992, 2 people, on vocals and keyboards was Kevin Ogilvie A.K.A. Nivek ohGr (hehe, now i use ohGr  ) and Kevin Crompton A.K.A. cEvin keys, who was on keyboards and sampler, and guitar, they recorded their first album called Remission if i can recall correctly, which was a very strange album, one of the strange reason being they played the "beats" in it backwards, so it would sound weird, then they decided to get someone for the samplers and all and that someone was the worlds most unknown, but most talented musician, named Dwayne Gottel, when he came in cEvin keys took on Drums and guitars, along with some keyboards, then they recorded "Bites" the album that got their name out, and started the Genre "Industrial", they then went onto more albums and in 1989 they recorded "Rabies", one of the songs called "Worlock" was one of their greatest songs ever done, and the video was a non-stop gorefest, even though the song was always slow, and depressing, it somehow worked, the band went on with drug problems and other things and in 1994, Dwayne Gottel was found dead due to a Cocane overdose, they recorded their final album in 1996 called "The Process" which was much more techno related then their last albums, after this album, they broke up, and went on with their own lives, now cEvin and Nivek play in a band called ohGr, they just released their second album "sunnypsypop",they are much more light hearted now, way off the depression, and into the .....happy lands, although, they are truly are the king of kings :D

thats my 70cents
