kvnchrist
I was wondering what would happen if the United States had have recognized Indian sovereignty over their lands and treated with them the same way they had Canada and Mexico. Would they have, in the intervening years banded together and created a sovereign country or separate states with a central currency, like the EU, or would they have joined with the United state and become states of their own?Would the American continent look like Europe and would there be any superpowers at all in the world? edgeburner
Interesting.....First off, the Indians would have had to unite amongst themselves before the attempt to accomplish anything you mention in the OP. T he American Indians have a long history of tribal wars the occurred before the "foreigners" landed on the North American continent. Also, one must remember the the Indian populations were devastated by the diseases that the European immigrants introduced them, ones to which they had no natural immunity too. That is how the vast majority of the American Indians perished...Not by bloodshed supposedly initiated by the "white man".All of these things considered, IMO, they would have assimilated.....just like other immigrants. They simply had no other option. As far as "superpowers" go.....Somebody/nations would seize that rein.....don't forget the Asian continent.....If the US had become like the EU.....Would Hitler have succeeded? Would FDR have been capable of organizing all of the different North American factions to aid Europe against Hitlers fascist advance?

Remember that it was the loss of WWI that even allowed Hitler to even have a shot at the leader position. If America had of stayed out of WWI would the results been the same. From what I understand, both sides were almost on the edge of collapse.
Thor.
Especially the way the USA has treated the indigenous people the last 100 years, calling them savages which they where far from, destroying their land. kvnchrist
Especially the way the USA has treated the indigenous people the last 100 years, calling them savages which they where far from, destroying their land.Well, there seems to be no boundry to man's capacity for inhumanity to his fellow man. Look at what the collonialization period did to the 3rd world countries. Ask the boars how they were treated during the Boar War. Ask the Chinese how they were treated by Japan before America endered the war. Ask the indiginous popluation of Austrailia were treated. I'm not making excuses for anything that America has done in the past. I just think that many of thoe who shared the flag of those that such things would have stopped them cold, if they were there at the time. The main reason I posted this was to not hash over the rights or wrongs that happened in the past. I'm sure there is just as mny people who point there fingers at the West as there are people who strongly disagree. What I wanted to discuss is how one would precieve the would be if The U.S. was a federation instead of a republic.
Thor.
Sigh my heritage which is mystery but looking at myself in the mirror may answer some question, but lay many more, even my mother thinks so. The way things are with the Government here, the people have to fight for freedom over land, not war speaking but over the courts like they did here in Canada. One thing i gotta hand it to is our constitution is for the people, even our government can't deny it. Its all thanks to our wonderful constitution that it made it happen, but i can't see it ever happening the way the states is now sadly. things need to change fast before real peace can happen. If you think The United States Constitution is the best in the world you got a reality check coming.Canada the land of the free. But things like this still persist, ignorance from our government.http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/09/06/am-i-next-campaign-harper_n_5777178.html This kind of thing is small fry compared what still goes on.
