alonsomartinez
I made my first highly detailed dagger , uv mapped it , and textured it from an image and it looks fine from far way but close up it just looks horrible.I want to know if there is some type of Photo program that I can use in order to enhance the quality of the image so that it looks better and nicer.I just tried to use ShaderMapCL but it didnt help and I don't even know if it does what I am looking for .Any help would be appreciated. Well, no image editing software can take a low resolution image and turn it into a high resolution image on it's own. What you will need to do is remake the image using higher resolution resources. I use Photoshop myself but I hear Gimp is a viable free alternative.

JDGameArt
I agree, Redo the UVW map. Save it 2048x2048 for objects that people might see up close like weapons, or large sections of armor. I use Photoshop, and am not completly sure how other editors work. But if the options allow in the nVidia tools make sure the texture itself is saved as a colormap, and the normal map is saved as a normal map: tangent space DXT5 ARGB. You can save the the texture as DXT3, or DXT5.
alonsomartinez
Ty guys Ill try it now WOuld this work if I was texturing it from a picture ?
LHammonds
WOuld this work if I was texturing it from a picture ?Not if the picture is a lower resolution than what you are trying to create. As mentioned, you can take a lower resolution image and "upscale" it automatically to a higher resolution (well, technically you could but the quality would remain the same as the lower resolution image). alonsomartinez
Did what they mentioned but it didn't change anything .I made it look better by messing with the normal maps and stuff but thank you guys ! Kudos for everyone !
