CommanderCrazy
My motherboard is an Asus P5KPL C, and I am wondering what socket it uses. Another question, Should I upgrade??
_frost_
If I remember right... it's 775. Do you have a problem with lags or why do you ask for upgrade?
Illiad86
ya, it's 775  What CPU do you have in it now? Ya could get a Core 2 Quad but that's as far as you'll go with that board...i7s use the new socket and all.
CommanderCrazy
I have a Quad ATM, its just a 2.5ghz though. Thats why I want an upgrade.
Erik005
I don't know if a upgrade is possible, better socket 775 Quadcores are expensive. You have a Q8300 or Q9300 right? The only 775 upgrade that would be worth it would be a Q9550 or Q9650. But in my opinion saving up for a i5-750 system is much better.
Illiad86
I have a Quad ATM, its just a 2.5ghz though. Thats why I want an upgrade. That stock? Why don't you just overclock it to 3 GHz? Free upgrade  Mine's at 2.5GHz right now....used to be at 3.2GHz with no drastic temperature changes...but it's an AMD chip. I know Intel's can run hella hotter than AMD, but going up 30% shouldn't do anything. I'd ask someone else about how to go on about overclocking one of those, as I've only done AMD chips. I'm sure it's pretty similar to AMD though...turn up the bus speed, etc....but I'm not sure if you have to turn up the voltage for anything or change anything with the RAM. Marthos
About the cheapest bestest ish cpu you could go for at the mo is the Intel Q9650 (3gig x 4 & a 12 mb cache) they were pricy but are coming down now that Intels new range (the I7 etc) are out. Other than that its the Extreme range but they still got prices that make you go ouch. CommanderCrazy
The current one I have is a Q6600. :whistling: Came with the computer... Do you know if I can get an application-type thing for overclocking or do I have t go through BIOS?Trust me, heat is not a problem.
Illiad86
Windows based overclocking applications...ugh, I don't really like those. It's easy to do it in the BIOS  Prolly plenty of articles on your chip, Q6600 is a popular one.
