kidwitthafro
Craig Venter and his crew have successfully created reproducing life via a computer and some chemicals. http://www.ted.com/speakers/craig_venter.html i believe he wants to make them produce alternative fuels like ethanol. evilneko
Absolutely amazing. I'm watching the video now but it seems like they didn't create the entire life from but rather synthesized the DNA and completely replaced the genetic material of an existing single-celled organism. Still an amazing accomplishment.
Sinophile
I am surprised this hasn't gotten more media attention. Even in this forum, no one seems to care. Personally, I think this is the biggest breakthrough since cloning.

Personally, I think this is the biggest breakthrough since cloning. Fascinating, synthetic life. This is going to be a new decade of surprises, and this discovery is just the tip of the Iceberg. brokenergy
I am surprised this hasn't gotten more media attention. Even in this forum, no one seems to care. Personally, I think this is the biggest breakthrough since cloning. If it had so much media attention imagine all the environmentalists and religious groups that would protest about this. I have read about this in the Times and Independent and I think that it is one step in a whole new world of genetics and biotechnology. It is truly a marvel and I hope that this technology will be used for something good (which is what the lead scientist wants).
