LOL! I agree, I imagine it would be just like when Columbus met the natives here in America. First their nice, then they gradually betray us, steal our land, harvest our brains, rape our wives, tear out our hearts, and claim Earth as a productive resource for their massive empire.

I think Free Bird is an acceptable alternative.

Its the aliens that go through the trouble to make direct, obvious contact that would be the ones I would be concerned about. Not all species may be as social in nature as humans are and for them to take a step forward like that could mean that they have alternative motives that in the end aren't in the best interests of us humans. If they wished to do nothing but observe us or even make use of some of the very abundant resources on Earth without drawing much attention or interfering with us then I wouldn't be as concerned.

And what exactly would an alien species have to gain from making direct contact with us anyway? That is why it would concern me if they did. I don't think I would panic at first, but I would be very skeptical of their intentions and not be very trusting at all. And I don't believe it would be good to make contact with a species of aliens that are thousands or millions of years more advanced than we are.

If aliens wanted to wipe us out, it would be as simple as engineering a super virus, which even us lowly humans are capable of doing today with current technology, and they could do it without even making direct contact if they just wanted to eliminate us.

There are many reasons, lets just hope that when that day comes, or when we introduce ourselves to an alien species, it ends peacefully.

They would probably regard us like we regard that drunk, stupid neighbor we all have had at some point. Generally ignore them and occasionally tip over the garbage cans when nobody is looking as repayment for playing their music too loudly. If they do make contact, it would almost certainly be to the detriment to both parties regardless of intentions. Humans don't make good slaves, servants, or workers, humans are also not particularly resilient to extreme environments. Any species or collective which could advance far enough to build ships of interstellar travel would have almost certainly managed to figure out genetics, robotics, or both, and be able to fulfill whatever labor needs they may have. In the case of aliens who just want to kill us off entirely and either strip our planet of resources, or convert it into a world of their preference, the act would take far more energy and time than just terraforming another, nearby planet or harvesting asteroids/comets, so it's unlikely they would make the journey unless they were extremely xenophobic. Meaning that the only logical situation where aliens would make contact, would be if they were a deeply philosophical, curious, and social species who are just pleased as punch that there's someone else in the universe to talk and sell their consumer goods to.

Yeah, it would be funny to think that the first bit of alien life we come across is a traveling salesman, but that possibility is rather high all things considered.

Perhaps they would enlighten us, showing us the ways of Space travel.

I would like to see us humans figure that out on our own. It would make us lazy intellectually to have a superior species teach us all their little secrets without having the ingenuity to develop these on our own. That would be cheating, in a way. Traveling the Universe will come in time, probably not within any of our lifetimes though.
