Kama621
Greetings all! I've recently wanted to revisit Fallout 3 and give it a whirl again, but am beset by NUMEROUS crashes. When I first played it, it had the occasional hiccup, but nowhere near the levels I'm getting now. Randomly during gameplay, I'll get the message "Fallout 3 has stopped working". From personal experience, the highest probability of it happening is during a heavy gunfight, but I've also see it happen while just passing through an empty hallway. I'm currently at my wits end here, so any help would be appreciated. Here are my system specs (courtesy of dxdiag). (Goes without saying that when I first played this, it wasn't on the same computer) System Information------------------Time of this report: 9/28/2014, 11:54:35Machine name: HOLSETYOperating System: Whilst scouring for answers, I read one suggestion to look in eventviewer. I did so and whenever an error shows up related to Fallout 3, these two culprits always show. M48A5
See this post for installation instructions: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1465357-installing-fallout-3-with-windows-78-and-xp/ With "Blackened" you do not need MMM - Project Beauty or Master Menu Modlule. If you aren't using the Updated Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch, you should be. Also, use only one fix, not two (either FO3 Error Fixes or the Unofficial Patch). Use the Large Addres Aware Enabler: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/6510/? Hope this helps!
Kama621
No such luck, 4 minutes into Anchorage and its still crapping itself. And as usual, its in the middle of a gunfight. Interestingly, I never got a single crash when I ran through CUBE experimental, even during its few combat situations...
Kama621
A curious turn of events. I managed to complete Anchorage after disabling a few mods (MMM, EVE and Fallout Redesigned). This didn't stop the crashes (3 during the final phase of the simulation, and 1 while exiting the Outcast Outpost). For a test, I reactivated the mods, and was able to play it no issue for over an hour. Then when I entered a loading screen, it suddenly crashed. Booted it up again, ran normally, then a minute later when I got into a gunfight, it crashed again. Infuriatingly enough, its now crashing when I try and load a save from the start menu (Something that has NEVER happened before).
M48A5
Your systems specifications are more than adequate and I do not see anything wrong with your load order. This would lead me to believe that there is a problem with your installation. Did you follow all the instructions as shown in the post that I linked? Including editing the correct fallout3.ini? The error code you received is sometimes shown when Fallout 3 is loaded in "Program Files". Is this the case with your install?
Kama621
I did reinstall the base game outside of Program Files. Also made edits to the ini file. You may be right though, a complete clean reinstallation might be the key (I wasn't exactly keen on the idea of redownloading all those mods, looks like there's no choice though). A question though. Mods like MMM, EVE and Redesigned, should they be installed before or after patching the game with the Unofficial Patch? A newbish question yes, but I just want to be sure. By "base game", you mean Fallout 3 and all the DLCs are installed outside "Program FIles"? And, you edited the fallout3.ini that is in the "My Games" folder? The one where your saved games are located? When you said you installed the game outside "Program FIles", you uninstalled the game and reinstalled it, not just moved it, right? Since I have never used the Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch, I really don't know. I would think that since it is an .esm it would not matter. You did keep a copy of the zipped mod files didn't you? So that you wouldn't have to redownload them, just reinstall them? Edited September 29, 2014 by M48A5
BlackRampage
The Unofficial patch, or rather the Updated Unofficial patch, should be installed before any and all other mods are installed.
Kama621
Well I'm stumped. Did a fresh install, edited the ini file, gave it the 3gb boost and the damn thing still randomly shits itself. Each crash lists these same figures in the Event viewer. Exception code: 0xc0000005Fault offset: 0x001878f8 What the hell does this mean? I'm convinced this is the key to solving the puzzle. I have done nearly every listed fix on the net for this damn game, at my wit's end.

I have done nearly every listed fix on the net for this damn game, at my wit's end.EDIT: I found your other worldly posts and discovered your problem Indeed, every other game appears to work fine, save Fallout 3. Should have mentioned that I'm using the GOTY edition (not steam). How would I go about installing an older version of Direct X? (I believe F3 uses 9, I'm currently at 11)http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2315595/random-fallout-crashes.htmlBasically this means you have the two cd's retail edition, if so, then you in fact have "secureRom installed" and to detect and remove that fitly DRM garbage, you need their own software to do it.This is By no means a cure, it is fact, you have it install if you are NOT using Steams distributions. this data, is EN- Capsulized in the game own launcher file, it gets installed from the second DVD disc for the DLC's.Before you touch anything, creat a folder on the desktop so you can copy all the game data for theDLC's to that folder, leave the rest behind.Uninstall the game and start over ,but before re-installing the game, download the detection and remover software first and clean your OS of the Junk. then only install Just the main game .Got that? once you have installed the main game, deal with GFWL and use Fomm's fake live dll, set up the game without any updates or patches of any kind, get the game running first. 1rst thing again, you need to back up / copy the files you want to keep into a folder on the desktop, this include the Entire "My Documents/ My-games folder. "COPY it" from this point, you copy back into the documents folder what you had backed up, over write data, launch the game on the Vanilla version and see if the game will load, if it does, use a saved game nearest the beginning of vault101 exit.Hard save, exit, download the patches from Bethesda 1.7 updater, make sure you have already done the geck if you intend to use that too, it needs to be installed and updated "Prior to updating the main game. The geck can not update over top of 1.7, the game needs to be 1.0.0.2 vanilla in order for that patch to work. once this is done, you can freely patch the main game files. once you have patched the main game files ,test Just fallout3 for a few hours, get used to how the game reacts before introducing the DLC's packages. you wont have SPAM bothering you....I really did not need to make this post...but there is not much else going on any where so at least this can be an updated late version of this stupid bug.Fallout 3 is the only Beth game Retail I know of that had bad coding, poor management in distribution and too many hands in it. xLive is dead, the bug is internet related , so you can't find the data on your PC, that's a dead end piece of code your seeing getting spammed. (Fault offset: 0x001878f8) there is no home for it to find.) .....................GFWL........................Kitty Edited October 9, 2014 by Purr4me
