Beginner in oblivion, ¿Which MODs to use?

Greetings forum!

I'm a total beginner to oblivion, I've just seen few gameplay videos and some good comments about this game from friends and other people.

I like hard games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and began to like RPG-like games as Fallout 3 and Mass Effect.

Now, I think it's time to give Oblivion a chance, as it has been -and is- one of the greatest icons in PC gaming.

I pretend to get it, but before I want to hear your recommendations on which are the best mods to start with. I know, I know... that I should experience the game as the designers pretended it to be but... I think it will be hard for me to play twice with and without mods (for time reasons mostly).

I want something like the STALKER COMPLETE 2009 MOD, as it doesn't alter gameplay, story or items but instead focuses on upgrading and fixing graphics, sounds, models, textures, IA... etc. Everything that can make the game more enjoyable without altering the original essence.

While I've browsed a little of the TES NEXUS database and I've come across all kinds of mods from the simple clothing mods, body modifications, armor, fixes, quest managers, scenarios, minigames... etc. I couldn't found a mod of the kind im looking for. It would be nice that things such as character models, clothing and armors got upgraded (better textures, body models, armors, etc...) for a more "updated" feeling.

I hope you can give me some advice, I have some weeks before college starts again.

BTW, I'm running over Core i7, 3Gigs of ram and a GTX280, so don't hesitate on recommending graphical improvement mods.

P.S: ¿What's with all the fuss about HGEC mods? There are ton's of 'em, haha.

Thanks in advance

Why not.....check out the TESnexus top 100 files, you can specify it as the top 100 files of any type (clothing, quest etc) or just the top 100.

Take a browse through the files and pick out whatever takes your fancy, they're all good

Files get to the top 100 through recommendations, its like a list already there for you.

Alternatively type into google something like "top oblivion mods", I think the UESP has quite a good list of tweaks or houses or quests.

For good graphic mods, I reccomend qarl's texture pack, unique landscapes, natural faces, HGEC and Robet's v5 (male body replacer), REAVWD (not sure if I spelled that correctly ;l ), some landscape LOD replacer, animated light & windows, and better cities (heavy on your fps)

@XanAlderon: Yes, actually I checked the TOP 100 listing but I couldn't find a "all-in-one" merged pack, that could be made taking compatibility between mods in mind.

@TehBuddha: Nice links indeed, Arwen's listing is good.

@Today: Nice, ¿Is there a way to improve all character's aspect? I mean apart from robert's v5, hgec and texture packs, something like more realistic armor and weapons, something you recommend.

Update: Well, as far as I see, OBMM, HGEC, Unofficial Oblivion Patch, Darnified UI and Unique Landscapes are the first pitstops, some of them pre-require special textures so its going to be a long task :P
