TabuKuroshi
I agree totally, if you aren't creating any new content then the game will become boring and stagnant. I was just referring to a base. The base is the toughest thing to create, with TES that part is in the bag. They can just grow the game from that. I'm honestly looking forward to an MMO version, that is one part at least to me that is lacking. Granted MMO's are lots more work, and can become a rat race. But no matter what "offline" RPG I play I still find myself saying man this would be so much more dynamic if I could meet up with people. Lately I have found myself using the higher intelligence companions, such as Sonia, Astrianna, and Vilja. All 3 are excellent creations. I was going to try Neesha as well. But even with their outstanding immersion levels they are not a substitute for live dialogue. I know that some people just don't want any of that, sometimes I don't myself. If you have more links with updates even if they are rumors, can you post them. I would love to check em out!
ub3rman123
But there won't be any player-made mods! Just because 90% of the mods that would be out there would be there just to unbalance the gameplay and make uber characters.
TabuKuroshi
Yep that would be the biggest most disappointing drawback of them all. What would be cool is if they had some kind of function where you could submit a mod and they would load it on the server this way it would be playable. Other than that it would be a client side thing, only viewable and usable by the player. Most instances if a program like punkbuster is being used that would pick it up as an unauthorized modification. Most likely leading to a ban. So much give and take, there are good things about MMO's but there are also an equal amount of cons... I have played one MMO that allowed a specific set of files to be altered, for instance I had a robe that I colored black, on my screen I could see it as black in game others saw it as the original color. gah, every time I think about it my stance changes. I would enjoy it as an MMO, but how it is now is what has made it so great. One thing they could do is have non gear related mods instance based. For example a player home. You could create it, and this is something like how Everquest had player homes. You would click on say a door, then a list of names would come up and you could choose which home you wanted to enter. then it would load up all the items etc... inside in a "cache" temporarily while you were in there and then it would purge it when you exited. If they did that and you could have your group all choose the same instance then work off that, that might be cool. Again this would require you to upload it to their server, But it would be a way to eliminate conflicts while also allowing modding.
dharh
Maybe we can hope for an MMO _and_ a single player TES? I've only just gotten back into moding and I'd hate to be blocked out of a new TES game to mod. As good as oblivion is technology wise, it is getting outdated and i'd like to see an updated engine to work with.
ub3rman123
Yeah, I'm certain there will be a single-player TES. They've been dropping too many hints for that not to be true. But I would count on losing quite a few people to the MMO, regardless of if it's moddable. As for MMO modding, a best-case scenario would be if Bethesda had some sort of a review team you could submit mods to. Think of it as the open-source permanent TES that's been in the dreams of many. It would be very nice, instead of making their own content, Bethesda could just rely entirely upon user-made stuff and add it to the game permanently. Only problem is Sturgeon's Law would keep them busy reviewing 24/7. Although from what I've seen, Sturgeon's doesn't apply to Oblivion modding as much as other places. Marthos
Yeah, I'm certain there will be a single-player TES. I hope so Ub3rman I really do, an MMO could be fun in some respects but the biggest part of TES for me now is the modding side of things, people have come up with some fantastic stuff for Oblivion (yourself included) but I was wondering / looking forward to seeing what could be done with a new game with a more efficient game engine etc. Guess we'll have to keep our fingers crossed and wait and see. ub3rman123
If the MMO happens the way I described as above, with selected mods becoming a permanent part of the world, I'd take it over a single-player ES5 any day.
CWDelicious
I think there will be a TES MMO, but I don't think it will take the place of TES:V. TES 1-4 has been single player, and massively popular. Don't fix what isn't broken.
