Question about making new items Not for Free

Hello there.

Just a quick question. I have quite a collection of Armors, Clothes, Weapons, etc downloaded, and some of them i would actually like to add to a vendors inventory, since i can find them much more easily than some of the strange places the original mod puts the chests, bags, what have you.

Of course i know i could add the items in question to the corresponding vendors chest, but couldn't i also simply make the Vendor the owner of the new container? I ask this because it is a tedious task to add hundreds of items by hand to the vendors. Would be much easier to dump it all into one or two of the original mod containers and just change the owner on that...

An as an extension question, can two people be owner of the same container? So that maybe two vendors have access to that?

Cheers,

LEmm

Many thanks. That is exactly what i was looking for. But i am guessing this will only add the items to that one Vendor, right? So i have to repeat this for every other Vendor i also want to have them for sale?

Anyway, that is a great help. I never noticed that there were articles like this on the Nexus page. My mistake.

I have one (or a few) more question if you would indulge me. I have played around with the tutorial (also the dungeon one) all day, and it works quite fine, but while using the CS, i noticed that it is possible to simply assign ownership of a chest to a merchant even if that chest is not within the same cell. Does that work? And would that not be a simpler solution? Or would it break anything, by simply leaving the containers where they are and just assigning them to the various merchants? Is there any advantage (or disadvantge) to having the container within the same cell?

Also, i noticed i can give ownership by clicking on the NPC, as well as when i edit the container itself. Does it modify the same entry? Again, it seems much simpler this way, and having found out anything while using the CS its never that simple. Or is it?

Basically, what i would do is putting all the containers from the new armors and weapons and such into one unreachable room and then assign them to the merchant i want to have those wares for sale. Would also allow me to change it more quickly if i want another merch to have access.

By the way my original question of two merchants having access to the same container was not answered in any of the tutorials either...

Many thanks in advance!

I believe that the new "vendor" chest must be in the same cell as the vendor in order for it to work.

As for two vendors sharing a container, I don't know. You would have to create a faction for both vendors to belong to and give ownership of the chest to the faction, and both venders need to be in the same cell - which means the same shop - and it might (or might not) work. If you try it, let us know how it works out! :teehee:

You need only create one "base" item for your chest and its contents.

Once that is done you can place that chest in as many cells as you want with no further need to mess with its contents.

Each new chest can be assigned seperate ownership.

(the contents of ANY container that is in the vedors shop cell WILL be added to that vendors sales inventory)

Create and populate once. Drag and drop ad nauseum.

Ah, cool to know heavywaters. However then i have to question why that option even exists in the CS. Meaning, why can i give the vendor ownership of a container that is outside his own cell? As far as i have seen that option ONLY comes up for containers (i mean the tab for merchant container when you double click the NPC), not for doors and the like.

Do they really sell everything that is in a container. What about the clutter that can be found in boxes, barrels etc? I don't think i see that for sale, yet the items are owned by the vendor (e.g. you get penalty for stealing them).

Maybe the merchant container function tab with the NPC limits the selling of items to that container? Or why is that even there if in fact they sell everything they own? Don't get it. What would happen if i assign nothing in that tab?

Also the vendors would still only sell what they are told to sell right? So no clothing unless i check clothing as a thing they would sell? Or do they offer everything, because then i would have to make different containers anyway.

I just finished making unique copies of every vendor chest in the game, so i have done that already anyway, just wondered if there wasn't a more easy way to do it.

Shadowfen, i completely forgot about the Faction option. That makes sense. However i guess that still would not allow out of cell containers i guess. Will have to test that out once i get my own shop up and running :)

Ownership can be assigned for containers in this case for scripting purposes, ie: a vendor will not have house items for sale untill you buy a house in their town.

From what I've seen in my mod: added containers of all types and every kind of contents. I dont assign ownership, yet the 45 apples I put in the barrel in the corner show up as 45 apples for sale in the vendors sales inventory.

When you sell the vendor an item, that item has to go somewhere so when you return 3 days later you can still buy it back.

The vendors sales inventory is randomly generated from whats in the cell each time the cell loads (the contents of the vendor crate is required to load).

Also the vendors would still only sell what they are told to sell right? So no clothing unless i check clothing as a thing they would sell? Or do they offer everything, because then i would have to make different containers anyway.

Didnt know you could assign or restrict particular item types.

But the vendors that already are in the game don't sell everything that is in their house. So there must be some way to get the 45 apples NOT to show up. Although of course that is a minor quibble.

Yeah you can (although the options are grayed out, the tutorial even mentions as much). There are several types of merchant classes which have some of the boxes activated, but not all of them. After all that also determines what you can sell them. I haven't found yet how to limit what they sell in the CS as whenever i make a new NPC all boxes are checked (and grayed out so i can not change it), however it is easy to change it in TES4edit.

Your other explanations make much sense to me. So i guess i will have to find a workaround to that somehow.

You can change that by first unticking in the main pane (Names and such) PC Level Offset, then, under Skills, untick Auto-Calc Stats. Then you'll be able to change such things as Merchant Gold and what they sell.
