cdo947214
If I use Mikoto in my mod, do I just ask, or do I need to show proof that I received permission? Also, do I need permission from those who post youtube GECK tutorials with scripts?
Lisnpuppy
Here are the Terms of Service of the Site: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras§ion=boardrules The important part for your question is here:Absolutely no copyrighted work is to be used without permission of the original creator. This includes content from other games, from DLCs, music creators or from other file authors. This also includes members from countries that do not recognise copyright laws. All files uploaded must have been created by the uploader or used with permission from the original author of the content. Such permission must be indicated in the Readme text attached to the file and/or on the Description page (or in the Description field for images), and must be obtained in advance, before uploading the file. If you cannot provide proof of consent then your file will be removed and your account is likely to be banned.Always provide appropriate credit to authors who have given you permission to use their content in your files both within the file description and within your file readme, even if said content was published as free to use. Many mod authors indicate on the permissions tab or on the descriptions/readme of the file their permissions and how they was it to be done. Some must give direct, others just ask for credit..some have used others works that may require permissions from those authors also. If there are no permissions this is not to be seem as free to use. Unless authors have specifically indicated you can freely use it then you can not use it without permission. Always indicate you have permission from those you need it from, credit those who ask and keep any emails, chat logs, etc from authors from whom you had asked and received those permissions in case there is any questions in the future. I hope this helps. Good luck.~Lisnpuppy

cdo947214
A character in a mod uses a funny line from a movie.
Lisnpuppy
If it is a one-liner (and only one not a series of these made by each character-though a slight change would be better) and is obviously a parody then I doubt it would be a huge issue. Like say one character maybe is standing with a bunch of dwemer and looks at a Thalmor officer and says, "these are not the droids (dwemer=better) you are looking for..." Well I wouldn't see that as a huge issue. Now if you are going to go throughout the mod an quote things willie-nillie claiming parody then yes, that would be an issue and you would need to get permission. If the applicable parties would come and ask the line to be removed then we would do so. Copyright is copyright and if the line used dwemer it would be a better parody. Simply copying lines from Star Wars if you are making a star wars type mod would be a no-no. Does this help?
