The Crew

Recommended Posts

This topic is primarily for myself and a few of my former cohorts on the RP forums to try and regroup to start up some new RPs and give the RP forums a much needed shot in the arm, feel free to post anything constructive or if you are interested in joining The Crew.

First order of business is that we need a new RP, I've got a setting but nothing for plot if anyone has both a setting and plot let them post it so we may rule if it will be a good RP or a flop. If we have difficulties in getting both or someone has a great plot idea but no setting I'll post my setting idea(s) to help get things rolling.

With a good enough setting, stories will form on their own. Take, for example, the Capital Wasteland post-Main Quest. There are several elements there which could be story-starters, from the fate of Vault 87 (did the Enclave take the remaining FEV or not? Logically they would, but logically they'd have gotten there long before you) to how the various factions react to Project Purity to a potential struggle for the purifier itself.

I think we should all invade the Raider's Morality RP even though my character is kinda stuck waiting for TehBuddha to post again...

You raise a very valid point. I'll post my setting idea after this. The issue with a lot of RPs is character dependancy, if the GM or a character in a partnership/duo/trio is unable to post for an extended amount of time then the people who are also in the partnership or duo or trio can no longer post for it to make logical sense and if the GM is gone and doesn't have an appointed 2nd then the whole RP stops this has been the achiles heel of the RP forums. I believe that a "command chain" structure should be formed so that if the GM is gone they have someone who takes over as GM for the duration of their abscense and controls their character where it is logically necessary and in turn another takes it up if both of them are gone like this:

1. GM-controls game and their character

2. Player A, controls their character in the event that 1 is gone also controls game and 1's character where necessary

3. Player B, controls their character, in the event that 1 and 2 are gone also controls game and 1's and 2's characters where necessary, in the event that only 2 is missing, controls 2's character where necessary

etc.

This way the RP can flow regardless of who is there, this requires that the players know the characters semi-well enough to be able to post as them without saying something uncharacteristic however that is the only flaw I've found. Let me know your thoughts

Now for my Setting (note this was originally a mod concept for Oblivion and I took my name from it so don't go thinking I'm a Narcisist)

REALM/WORLD: Armageddon

TIME PERIOD: Multiple

DESCRIPTION: Armageddon is an archipeligo of infinite islands in the midst of an endless expanse of ocean called the Sea of Eternity. No island is stationary they all move and the currents of the great Sea as well as sorcery dictate the movement of the islands. The realm of Armageddon is ruled by countless Dieties however the main dieties are The Four: Inferno (fire, darkness, vindication, sorrow), Lunia (the moon, love, the sea[minor]), Solaria (the sun, love, the land[minor]), and Daix The Winds: Zephyr (the west, chivalry, the sword) Kronos (the East, necromancy, dark magic) and Zephyr Kronos (the North and South, new beginnings, paradigms, balance) the Pantheon of Storms: Grius (thunder, lightning,), Balast (the sea, the unknown) Nila (Alcohol, lust) Alroth (Sailors, ships) Jila (hurricanes, typhoons, whirlpools) however there are many many more dieties but they are more minor. There are several factions in the realm such as the Creed of Darkness (a group of assassins that follow Inferno and Lykarz, the diety of assassins and righteousness). The races in Armageddon are as infinite as it's other aspects, as the isles shift constantly so too does the realm as the tendrils of the Sea of Eternity shift the isles riding amidst those tendrils occasionally shift into other realms and worlds such as Earth hence the Bermuda Triangle and Atlantis, and Nirn and all of it's magics. As the realm shifts through space and other realms it also moves through time Armageddon has it's own time but it enters other worlds and realms at any given time one day an isle may enter the Atlantic Ocean in the year 304 AD and dissapear the next then two years later n Armageddon it appear back in earth in the year 3047 AD. It is constantly shifting constantly changing. Magic exists in Armageddon as the time and space twist and allow things that in our realm we only dream of likewise our conventional weapons are much more useless there, the strong arm and mind are ever more reliable than the gun in this mercurial realm as the balistics of bullets may change on a whim or may fly at horrendous velocities only to disintegrate inches from the target.

I do very much like the idea for that RP. I've never been too fond of those RPs that deal with guns rater than swords, but yours seems to cater to both tastes. The setting means that any character or type of character is feasible, which could open up a whole new range of interesting scenarios.

If you make it, I will come.

It's a rather abstract concept, a brainchild of doing menial tasks which require very little thought and my mind wandering. Like I said it was originally an idea for a mod for Oblivion (and before that Morrowind) so I fleshed out the setting and gods a ton. I never got a very good storyline though. I suppose the RP could be just a "day in the life" kind of RP and people will devise their own obstacles as they go along.

What do you mean by a "day in the life kind of RP"?

I am unfamiliar with the concept.

The big overarching plot either isn't there or doesn't appear until later. Until then it's the individual's and their small groups' exploits, happenings and meetings which could be entertaining in and of itself without a massive doomsday plot to foil.

Concept sounds pretty cool. Not sure If I'd RP in it though. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea I jus feel like RPing in an already established world, rather than something that was created by one of us ya know? Why not put our own twist on The Elder Scrolls, Fallout or even the real world instead of a whole new world where ultimately the creator of it would only know whats going on. Like with Fallout RPs.. the setting and feel is already known to alll of us, so we wont be nit picking to much on trying to figure out our characters background.. allegiances.. followin me?

I mean yeah.. of course you could always throw together a brief summary of the regions..factions n so forth for this world. That could work great if done well. I'd jus rather focus on something we all already know and love :)

That being Fallout.... and TES.

Hell, ya said it was originally a concept for Oblivion right? Why not make this Armageddon some new Realm that appears or something..? Not deadric.. a whole new threat? or maybe not? I dunno.. Jus feel like Rping as a Khajiit

As i said in the confusing summary of the confusing realm haha te islands shift into other dimensions. The concept of the mod was that an island shifted into the sea south of Leyawiin (kind of near deepscorn hollow) and to get to the new realm you had to go on a long quest searching for several rings that are tokens of some of the big dieties in Armageddon to open the portal. In the RP this could be the same storyline and once the RP moved into Armageddon they could uncover a plot from some evil being to use the portal to access Nirn (where the Elder Scrolls series takes place) and conquer Cyrodiil. This way the majority of the RP would be in familiar territory and once allegiances and backgrounds had been learned thoroughly the RP would shift to a place that it itself would require figuring out.
