Mattiewagg
The marking as read thing is quite hard. I believe it's hardcover hardcoded. Edited October 10, 2014 by Matthiaswagg

Tajjara
There's a mod out there that lets you pick up spellbooks without reading them. Could that same idea not be applied to regular books, without adding the 'read' marker to a book?
lofgren
You don't need a mod to pick up spell books without reading them. That's the default behavior.
Doozerpindan
Pretty sure they meant skill books. The problem is the mod in question only works for books you pick up that aren't inside a barrel/sack/wardrobe/etc.
lofgren
You can block activation of books in the world and instead transfer them to the PC's inventory, but that won't necessarily solve the OP's problem.

Could that same idea not be applied to regular books, without adding the 'read' marker to a book?I think there are technically several of them. But they stop the "read" marker by letting you pick it up as if it was in a container (which just grabs it without reading it) instead of reading it at all.OP wanted to be able to read them, but not mark as read until they actually finished reading it. But as far as I can tell there's no way to check what page out of how many. I agree with Matthiaswagg, it seems to be hardcoded with "open book = mark read".
