EmancipatorJCH
Hey strangers of the wasteland! I've recently been modding New Vegas to have a fresh play-through on the PC, since I've only ever played it on the 360 in the past. Having found the load order I'm happy with, found a work around to use Project Nevada with a controller and the like, I've come up against one final problem- After about 20 minutes of play there seems to be noticeable lag introduced into the game, mainly in interiors. For example in Primm, in Vikki and Vances casino. I can load a save in the casino, running around willy nilly at a solid 60 FPS, but If I leave, explore the wasteland and return 20 minutes later, the casino is much more stuttery and laggy, hitting 52-53 lows, and it's quite immersion breaking for me. It seems to be exacerbated by the NPCs walking around. My specs are:Intel core i7- 3770kAMD Radeon 7970HD16gb RAMWindows 7 And My Load Order:GameMode=FalloutNVFalloutNV.esm=1DeadMoney.esm=1HonestHearts.esm=1OldWorldBlues.esm=1LonesomeRoad.esm=1GunRunnersArsenal.esm=1CaravanPack.esm=1MercenaryPack.esm=1ClassicPack.esm=1TribalPack.esm=1Project Nevada - Core.esm=1Project Nevada - Cyberware.esp=1Project Nevada - Equipment.esm=1Project Nevada - Rebalance.esp=1Project Nevada - Extra Options.esm=1oHUD.esm=1FCOMaster.esm=1ELECTRO-CITY - CompletedWorkorders.esm=1ELECTRO-CITY - Highways and Byways.esm=1NVEC BugFixes.esm=1NVInteriors_Core.esm=1NVInteriors_ComboEdition.esm=1NVWillow.esp=1SomeguySeries.esm=1Weapons.of.the.New.Millenia.esm=1NevadaSkies.esm=1Interior Lighting Overhaul - Core.esm=1Interior Lighting Overhaul - L38PS.esm=1DarNifiedUINV.esp=1Project Nevada - Cyberware Additions.esp=1Project Nevada - Rebalance Complete.esp=1Project Nevada - All DLC.esp=1The Mod Configuration Menu.esp=1EVE FNV - ALL DLC.esp=1Camp Searchlight HotFix.esp=1Project Nevada - EVE All DLC.esp=1Vurt's WFO.esp=1dD - Enhanced Blood Main NV.esp=1christinecos.esp=1WeaponModsExpanded.esp=1WMX-ArenovalisTextures.esp=1WMX-DLCMerged.esp=1WMX-POPMerged.esp=1WMX-EVE-AllDLCMerged.esp=1357retex.esp=1Boacombat2glove.esp=1boa ncrpahelmet.esp=1MiscItemIconsNV.esp=1TFH HD Gauss Rifle WMX.esp=1Permanent_Weapon_Shells_Light.esp=1FP gun follows crosshairs.esp=1LFox Missing Ammo Recipes.esp=1LFox Missing Ammo Recipes GRA DLC.esp=1LFox Missing Ammo Recipes HH DLC.esp=1Easy Unlocking and Easy Hacking and Guaranteed Pick Pocket.esp=1MaxFollowers12.esp=1LightUpAndSmokeThoseCigarettes_edisleado.esp=1PortableCampsite.esp=1MoreDeathSlowMo.esp=1Pip-Boy Light - Blue.esp=1Quicker PipBoy Light-0_4Sec.esp=1updatedWearGlassesandMasks.esp=1delilah.esp=1NVWillow - Project Nevada Rebalance.esp=1JT_ChangedDog.esp=1Russell.esp=1FCO - GlowingOne.esp=1FCO - Delilah.esp=1FCO - Russell.esp=1MTB.esp=1Courier Vests.esp=1VestCheatBag.esp=1DragonskinTacticalOutfit.esp=1DragonskinBonusPack.esp=1DragsCasualCourierAndMore.esp=1DragsModernGunslinger.esp=1Holster Gear.esp=1I Got Spurs.esp=1Sunglasses Shipment.esp=1Sunglasses Shipment - Four Eyes.esp=1DragsSeamConcealers.esp=11Earrings.esp=1WearableDogtags.esp=1ae86seiryuu_easy.esp=1Alexscorpion's Custom AK103.esp=1Exciters SCAR-H Assault Rifle v.1.00.esp=1FNX.esp=1kabar.esp=1Kriss.esp=1SR556.esp=1HKUSP.esp=1DGS1 Sniper Rifle NV.esp=1TYR Armor NV.esp=1Red Eye NV.esp=1RCSS.esp=1MP5A4 and SWAT Gear.esp=1Weapons.of.the.New.Millenia.Cheat.Cabinet.esp=1Repair Book.esp=1The Weapon Mod Menu.esp=1NevadaSkies - Ultimate DLC Edition.esp=1NevadaSkies - Brighter Nights.esp=1Interior Lighting Overhaul - Ultimate Edition.esp=1ILO - GS Shack.esp=1ILO - NVInteriors Project.esp=1ILO - Nevada Skies Patch.esp=1 It's worth noting I also use NVSE/ 4GB/ Game Companion in Fake Fullscreen to help performance and Have NMC's Large Texture pack installed, amongst a few others. MilkTh3Cow
I don't understand... 50+ FPS is just fine. Anything below 45 is when you should start worrying.
EmancipatorJCH
I think any kind of substantial performance drop on my rig is unfortunate. It gets much worse the longer I play since it almost certainly is some kind of memory leak. It's clearly "A" problem that I thought those more knowledgeable could help with. These individuals seemed to share my problem:http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/2032484-fps-decreases-as-i-play/page-

drithius
The Gamebryo Engine games (most games really) are mostly bound to a single core. So it doesn't really matter how good of a multicore processor you have if one core is getting pegged at 90% or above. Look into a purge cell buffers plugin for some help, but don't expect it to help in all cases. And I have to repeat what others have said: Anything above 50fps is pretty much unnoticeable. Turn off your fps monitor and stop being so OCD ~.~
EmancipatorJCH
I'll probably come off as hostile and any choice of swear/ curse you can throw at me, but seriously what kind of responses are these guys? Not helpful at all. Any variance in a 60FPS game is hugely noticeable to myself, it's not "unnoticeable", I'm not "worrying" it's just off-putting and annoying, playing a stuttery, lagging game is not a fun experience for myself. Different strokes for different folks, if you'll happily play a game varying from 30-45 frames, good for you, but I can't. Games are best played at a locked frame rate, games usually choose 30 or 60, I'd much rather play at a locked frame-rate than a chaotic one. And New Vegas with my set-up should reach 60 over 30 quite easily. Pal 25fps for European television or 30 NTSC, this has absolutely no relevance here. I can tell you as a film-maker myself, my preference for 60FPS in games has absolutely no affect on my understanding and acceptance of film/ or TV and their frame-rates. Having looked around, the answer is that New Vegas, is simply just not a very stable game. The engine is archaic and plays poorly with systems that should perform exemplary. Having to install NVstutter remover, plus a 4gb executable just to get the vanilla game running anywhere close to acceptable should ring alarm bells (but it didn't and I thought that just maybe there may have been a well known memory leak problem I was unaware of, being new to the scene/ game). I don't think "OCD" has anything to do with it. But specifically drithius, thanks for the more in-depth advice. I did try PCB in the console and installing a mod that performs the same in the background to no avail. Also thanks for your other advice in the mod advice thread, I used FNVEdit along with the GECK to modify a collection mod to choose exactly what I wanted with no problems, thanks very much :) Finally if anyone else of the interwebs is looking for a solution to this problem, I think unfortunately as of now there isn't one- at least one that I know of. Keep an eye on your script heavy mods, and be aware/ check for conflicts in FNVEDIT or use LOOT to organise your load order. I also read rumblings that overwriting your saves (instead of saving to a fresh slot) can cause corruption problems and save-bloat, but it's not known as fact to be the cause of every problem with New Vegas. In my research of this problem I found that FCO-Glowing ghouls was causing significant performance drops with certain bugged ghouls, one in camp searchlight specifically- so i uninstalled that module- I haven't played the game enough since to know whether it fixes the issue. Good luck wastelanders, be sure to message me if you ever find out what's causing the memory leak-like problems, perhaps we share the problem/ mod causing the issues? I started a forum post on this a while back and got no response. Ignore the idiots prattling on about how it doesn't matter. It's not the lower frame rate it's the constant fluctuations in frame rate that are annoying. The only real fix is to simply exit to desktop and restart the game every half an hour or so. JimboUK
The engine is a dog, it's CPU heavy yet only really uses one core, it's not as bad as it was in Morrowind but it's far from ideal.

Yes, it's the sporadic drops that make little sense, and indeed being fixed by restarting the game. I saw your post when I had a quick search of the forum, I linked to it. I noticed that we share AMD's 7970s. Don't know if that's of any significance. I'm pretty jaded by this cards dogged problems with micro-stutter in other games. JimboUK
I have a 7970 and I'm not getting the slow down over time, try entering pcb into the console when things start to get bad and see if that helps.
