Modding Help

Can anyone help me on how to add mods with textures, meshes, etc.

I can add mods with just one plugin file. Thats really easy. Lol

Im only having trouble when it comes to meshes and stuff like that.

I've just recently downloaded the "Rideable Creatures" mod. And it works perfectly fine, and that mod has meshes and textures, so I'm obviously doing something right. But with other mods it, doesn't work.

After I had fun with the Rideable Creatures mod, I download a "Jetpack" mod, Which also has meshes, everything was looking fine, except when I equipped the Jetpack, all it showed on my back was "Red ! Box". And I'm pretty sure I did exactly the same thing with the Rideable Creatures mod.

Here's what I do:

-->Download the file

-->Open it with WinRAR

-->Highlight everything and Extract to C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data.

-->Make sure everything looks right

-->Open up Fallout Mod Manager

-->Check the box

-->Open up FOSE and start playing.

Is there anything I'm doing wrong in those steps?

Im getting really confused with the meshes and crap.

By the way, Im using Windows Vista Home Premium. If that helps.

And I don't care if this has been posted before. I can't be stuffed searching around the forum :thumbsup:

Edit: Oh and while I'm here, I also downloaded the ArchiveInvalidation thing. What does that even do? I heard it helps with modding, but all I see is 2 buttons that say "Activate" and "Deactivate"...

Press the activate button and try running the game again to see if it works. If not, try deactivate. I'm not really clear on which button does what. But one should work.

looks like you've run afoul of that evil dictator UAC and his plans to control the world

seriously consider installing some place else to thwart his machinations

Am no expert by any means, but have you tried right clicking FOMM and running as admin, and clicking the Toggle Invalidation button button?

I had a couple mods that wouldn't activate properly for some reason until I ran FOMM as an administrator (all hail vista).

I know it's not replacing any textures, so the invalidation scenerio might not have any effect, but I do it with every mod now just out of habit. (you need to hit it twice, once to turn off, once to turn on again)

He means if you install Fallout to a directory like C:\Fallout3, you bypass the whole Program Files security obstruction built into that area - even if you are Amin. I personally don't think it's a good security practice to turn off UAC. I have Vista, and in order to get it to work right in Program Files, you have to reset file level permissions on the Fallout directory tree in there to users full control, and turn off inheritance from parent. I did it that way the first time I installed the game. I've since moved it to C:\fallout after purchasing the GOTY version.

It's easier just to install to C:\Fallout3 and be done with it.

So your basically saying, Uninstall Fallout from the Program Files and Install on its own File or something? Lol

Would be awesome if you could tell me how to do that?

Haha sorry, Im good with computers, but not this good.
