Best pop up blocker/Virus detector

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, i recently downloaded a oblivion mod, off of a mirror site, and it was packed with pop-ups, viruses and what not. Now norton 360 blocked about 95% of all the problems,

but i still have an issue with pop-ups that open up internet explorer, make a annoying ticking noise like im clicking, and they just multiply on my screen over and over and over and over.

I cannot find my root problem or where this little *censored* is hiding, and i need some software to take care of it, because my gameplay on multiplayer games is droppping due to bandwidth being opened elsewhere without my consent!

I trust you guys can help me out...

thanks in advance!

haha there's an easy solution...don't use Internet Explorer  Or you don't use it and the pop ups come from that?

Firefox has AdBlock Plus that blocks out all ads on websites. It also has a good pop up blocker built in. Plus, it's just safer than IE. There's still way too many loopholes in IE. My boyfriend had to use it to look at a video and he got adware in a matter of seconds.

In my experiences with Norton 360...(ARGHHHHGHGHGHGH!!!!), stuff always slips through that. I don't use any AV software, but I do recommend Kaspersky AV. It has an excellent banner/pop up blocker and it's not a system hog like Norton is.

Get CCleaner. Viruses/annoying crap likes to hide in the Java and Flash folders. Run the cleaner, restart the computer. And just uninstall Internet Explorer...it's so pointless.

Sounds like you might need to visit the DSLReports Cleanup Forum. Be sure to go through the mandatory steps before posting, more than likely that'll get you cleaned up.

And next time remember that Oblivion mods do not come in the form of EXEs.

Here's a link to where AntiVirus programs were discussed here before: http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=189015

Something to keep in mind:

Personally I find Avast 5 pretty agreeable, though my suggestion to anyone looking for an antivirus is always to make use of trial offers and purchase (or keep, in the case of freebies such as Avast) the one you like best. Just make sure to clean up after each one. PCs are not like consoles, every system is fairly unique and just because Antivirus A performs well on Computer A, doesn't mean it will on Computer B.

Thanks a ton guys, I managed to eliminate the problem in a short amount of time!

CCleaner I already use, it is a very good piece of software!

And Internet explorer was not my chosen browser - I alternate between Firefox and Chrome (Security and Speed), so I just got rid of Internet Explorer completely!

Once again, Thanks guys!
