Unable to overwrite files? Steam downloaded

Hello, I'm just wondering if anyone else has been able to successfully install mods while running fallout via Steam? My problem is that I can't seem to find the files or folders to "overwrite" my replacers. (With the exception being DIMONIZED's Type3 body replacer - the FOMM package). Take Narrowed Shoulders for example, I extract to C:\Users\Public\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout 3 goty\Data - and get no overwrite yes/no box. As a matter of fact, I never had a "meshes" folder to begin with until I extracted to said location.

To clear some things up:

As you can see, it is NOT in program files, so UAC shouldn't be a problem.

Even so, I have UAC turned off.

Running Win7 Prof., if that matters.

If anyone could give me some help in trying to install these replacer mods, that would be greatly appreciated.

Anything with a .esm or .esp works perfectly.

Thanks

I personally dont have Steam, but there has to be a "meshes" folder somewhere for Fallout to run on, you may want to use your OS integrated search, and search "meshes" or "fallout", but your Fallout.exe should be in the same area where your "Data" folder is that houses all your meshes and textures. Fallout automatically creates a directory in My Documents -> My Games -> Fallout 3, you may also want to check there. That is my only guess, sorry.

this is exactly correct

fallout does not come with this folder.

Ok, so if it doesn't come with a meshes folder, where exactly can I find the actual game files? Lol this almost seems more complicated than it's worth, and it shouldn't be at all.

Domas! I hope this helps you... Ive been looking at this thread / forum the past two days trying to figure out why I couldnt get 20 cent weapons to work... Same deal as you.. Steam Game of the Year Edition, Windows 7, invalidation check...

After reading all the important detailed information on the 20 Cent page itself I decided to check my launcher's "Data Files" sure enough none of the 20th Century stuff was checked... checked it all hit go... vendors didnt have new stuff (I assume they have to "restock" once before they do..) but the first group of raiders I came across let me have it with their new arsenal, couple of winchester lever-guns, a souped up mini-14, and a tokarev.

I hope you made the same mistake as me and this fixes your issue... Seeing as this (not including CALIBR) was the first mod I tried to install. It seems obvious to me that everyone in this community just assumes you know to check the new files whenever you load a new mod. Happy Hunting -Roach

Thanks for the reply :), however I use FOMM (Fallout Mod Manager) and ensure the mods that contain .esm/.esp are checked, and it correct loading order. My issue comes with actually installing the mods that replace textures and meshes. Although, I believe I have found a solution. Me being myself and non-trusting of programs that "do it for me" never really used FOMM to it's full potential. You see, in TES3: Morrowind, I would simply download the archived (.zip/.rar/.7z) file, extract to desktop, and proceed to manually place, or replace, the files in my game's directory. After doing some searching on FOMM and FOMOD (Fallout Mod?) help/tutorials, I came across the functions of creating FOMODs. The reason I could get DIMONIZED's Type3 mod to work was because it was "FOMOD ready", as was Mart's Mutant Mod. The problem arises when I tried the same steps with other mods, that weren't so user-friendly.

That's when I found this tutorial: http://zumbs.wordpress.com/2009/11/08/fomm-and-fomods-for-dummies-1/

Now, with mods that aren't FOMOD ready, I simply save the archive to my desktop, extract to [Folder]*, open FOMM and choose "Create from Folder"...

*Usually name the folder with whatever pertains to that particular mod that I'm extracting to it.

This has worked with every other mod that wasn't FOMOD ready that I have installed.

I appreciate all the input, and apologize for neglecting to put a closure to my topic. (I was just too excited to start exploring all the mods I finally installed ;) ).
