slygothmog
Ok, I assume you have done the following...you placed the win.rar file into a new folder and chose Extract here...then you have tried to copy and paste the .esp file and any folders into your Oblivion\Data folder and winrar is saying cannot find the file specified on all of them when you try to paste? slygothmog
Well that's got me completely stumped...sounds more like a technical issue than a mod one, try the technical support under General Oblivion, maybe someone there can help.

bben46
Almost all mods are packed in in a compressed format, partly because it makes them smaller and partly for security, These files end in either .7z, .rar or .zip and are usually called zipped files. There are other kinds of zipped files, but they are handles in the same way as these. All can be unzipped using any of the major unzipping programs - Winzip, winrar or 7-zip. Winzip is a for pay program. Winrar is a shareware try before you buy program, and 7-zip is absolutely FREE with no strings attached. I have never found a compressed file that 7-zip could not handle. Any zipped file must be unzipped before being placed in the data folder. So first you must have a unzipping program. I recopmend 7-zip as it is the best FREE unzipping program avaliable. And it is also available right here at TesNexus: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15579 Get a unzipping program, either the free 7-zip or one of the others and install it. be sure to associate all of the zip type files with that program , .zip, .rar & .7z. After that anytime you left click on a zipped file, the unzipping program will run and allow you to unzip it. I have a special folder that I download Oblivion mods into - for some reason I named it 'Oblivion Downloads' When I have a mod file that I want to install, I create a new folder in that folder and give it the name of the mod, then move the downloaded mod into ot before unzipping. Then the unzipped files - there may be quite a few or just one or two - will be all in one place and you will know what mod they go with - this can be important if the mod author has named them something like file1, file2 etc. most smaller mods eill have at least one .esp and probably several folders named meshes and texture. COPY, do not move the esp file, the meshes folder, the textures folder and any thing else the author says in necessary into the Oblivion\data folder. If you get a message warning you that a file may overwrite another and do you want to proceed, always answer Yes. It doesn't really overwrite anything, instead it will append the new files to the ones that are already there. Now, you must check the mod name in the data list before it will appear in the game. If you have done all of this and the mod does not appear in game, come back and ask with the new information. Good Luck

shaftedarrow
Keep in mind that you can use the actual zip files with OBMM. To do so you open OBMM and click "create". Name it however you see fit (recommended to name it after the mod contained in the zip file). Then click "Add Archive" and locate the zip file with the mod in it. Depending on how big the file is, this could take a few minutes to process. You will see, in the window below the "Add Archive" button, the .esp/.esm and texture/meshes/sounds/etc in the zip file when it is finished. Click "Create OMOD" on the bottom right and let it convert the data to OMOD. Then all you have to do is select the OMOD you created and click Activate. Please note that some mods have optional files and you can do the above by opening the folder containing the zip file, right click the file and select "extract here". Select all files that you want to include in the mod and then, while all files are selected, right click any of the selected files and mouse-over 7zip (or whatever zip program your using) and select "Add To XXXX.7z". XXXX is the file name, and .7z is the file type for 7zip (.zip or .rar are associated with winzip and winrar respectively). I recommend this process because OBMM, although it takes time to prepare, keeps modding relatively clean and easy to add/remove mods without accidentally removing files that you need to keep for other mods or the core game.
