Majorshepard
I've been trying to get the best hud and graphical fidelity of my game for some time now but, as with everything, tastes change. Mods get removed due to lack of updates, general improvements that I didn't notice or just something that I ended up not liking anymore. But throughout it all I wanted to fix that damn hud that is so freaking huge on the screen, that's when i came across DARNUI. It made all the hud and text smaller and moved them to the corner of the screen, so that they are out of the way and not as cumbersome, but still in a position to easily look to. However other mods that i have seem to alter the same files, and to rectify this I have tried using something made by Gopher "Unified HUD" but I still get problems and errors with it. And it worked for a time, but at some point it has gotten all messed up and now the hud is back to what it was originally, huge and obnoxious, and everytime I reinstall it and overwrite anything it messes up other mods, to the point of making them no longer work. I have also tried to make New Vegas as stable as possible, making it so it doesn't lag as much as the vanilla game and even work smoothly. However with the in game Mod Configuration menu it now has problems with some mods making the loadings times take longer and lag during saving. I also cannot play the game for long until it crashes to desktop, which was fixed with mods when I started but now happens again. I will put up a list of my mods up soon to help others see if any of the mods are incompatible, broken due to not being updated anymore or left in a state that renders them unusable. The aim of this is to both sort out the mod list so that all of the mods I have work seamlessly together and have the game run as well as it can without crashes, bugs causing the games to have problems (such as quests not unlocking, achievements not unlocking which actually happened on my playthrough with the first freaking one, graphical bugs etc) and general stability. As you all know New Vegas is a complete bug and glitch fest and I certainly am not able to sort it out on my own, with the limited knowledge I have. I know this may be a lot to ask, people have their lives and obviously can't help me like some sort of support technician who can be there for as long as needed, but I think its better to ask and get an answer than just not play the game. I hope someone can help me with this as soon as I can put up the mod list, I can't do it right now as it is pretty late atm. Thanks in advance for any aid or advice you can give. RoyBatterian
The most we can do is give advice, the first thing I would do since you've added and removed a lot of things over time is to make a list of ALL of your mods you are going to use. Then, remove them all, delete your \Data folder and verify your cache in Steam to re-download everything fresh and start over from there. Next is to decide what you want to use for a mod organizer, either Traditional like FOMM Fork, or NMM... I would recommend to take the leap and learn to use Mod Organizer which will save you headaches in the long run when you check and remove mods on a regular basis. EssArrBee has made a very good guide to using it with New Vegas on the New Vegas STEP project. Also Gopher has been covering it for use with Skyrim, however almost all of it also applies to New Vegas. Start with the basics, NVSE, NVSR, NVAC and FNV4GB Updated. This will give you a solid base to work with. Enabling the initial heap function in NVSE is also highly recommended, it is different than the one in NVSR. When installing hud mods, since JazzIsParis has released UIO now it's become much much easier to manage, even with Mod Organizer. I would recommend installing HUD mods like so.DarNUIProject Nevada (don't allow overwrites to DarN only)The Mod Configuration Menu (allow overwrites to PN only)Any other HUD mod (do not allow overwrites unless you know you should)Install UIOWhen I say don't allow overwrites unless you know you should, that would be something specific that modifies DarNUI like the DT/DR, the LevelUp menu or the one which changes take all to R and such. With UIO it will handle any overwriting that needs to happen when the game is launched. You may want to test your game is functioning properly at this point and MAKE A BACKUP of the \Data folder so you don't have to go through this process again if you mess stuff up if you aren't using Mod Organizer. Then it's a matter of load order and resolving any conflicts as well as making a merge patch with FNVEdit. I very much recommend that you learn at least basic use of FNVEdit to merge form lists and other things properly so your game runs as well as it can. Also remember that there is a hard limit on the amount of plugins you have in your load order, it's anywhere from 110 to 150 with the most common limit being 139. I would suggest that you try very hard to keep it under 100 plugins for the best experience. Edited October 16, 2014 by RoyBatterian
Majorshepard
Yea I have had problems with having too many mods with skyrim, which is always near the limit of 155. I appreciate the advice and I'll look into it, I also looked into Mod organiser for Skyrim but it was so over my head because of the amount of mods I have for it that I gave up on it. But hey since I only have 91 mods for New Vegas it might be easier. I will give the STEP thing a go as I really want to be just be able to play the game atm :P
Majorshepard
Oh btw would I also have to get rid of NVSE and others things not inside the data folder? Or should I just leave those?
RoyBatterian
You can leave stuff in the root folder, I'd update NVSE to the latest version also.
Majorshepard
Alright i've done that. I'm stuck atm though on the STEP guide. I'm up to the part about installing Project Nevada and can't do 2 things: 1. In the installation part of Project Nevada it says the following "Open up the Project Nevada archive Project Nevada 2_5-40040-2-5.7z with Windows Explorer.Navigate to "optional/DarnUI" and extract the Menus folder to the ".../<Mod Organizer Directory>/mods/Project Nevada" folder." However when I open the folder that has all of the files for Project Nevada there is no folder called "Optional" or anything called "DarnUI" in the folder at all. 2. When I start up the game to see if it works it will load up to the main menu but when it gets there nothing shows up. It shows the background the NCR ranger and plays the music but no logo, no menu it doesn't even pause to load it just sits on the background not doing anything. I'm not sure if I am meant to wait a while for it to work but after waiting 1-2 minutes nothing happened.
RoyBatterian
Oh, I don't think EssArrBee updated the STEP guide to include UIO yet. The installation method has probably changed and doesn't need to be that much hassle anymore, since UIO will take care of this at runtime. You won't need to use FOMM anymore to install. Majorshepard
oh....well damn. Does that mean I will have to wait till he updates it? Cause he mentions Unified HUD a LOT in the guide and nothing about UIO.
Majorshepard
Should I message the guy about the UIO?...I don't even know if people are supposed to message the guy about new stuff or not.
