Patch 1.04

Alright, so having read all this on patch updates and regression of files to pre 1.03, I'm debating whether I should simply roll my game back to 03. I have virtually no issues with 03. No real crashing, no problems that I know of. I don't have Awakenings installed and probably won't install in the known future. Seriously, what is 04 getting me at this point. Headaches.

 

After spending 3 hours trying to figure out what was wrong with Advanced Tactics and so forth, I gave up in frustration and went to a ball game (hmm, there's at least 1 benefit to buggy patches).

 

It my 1.03 install works well and I don't have Awakenings, is there any real reason for me to upgrade? I also didn't see any attack and/or damage benefits for my DW rogue.

 

Thoughts? I need to do my business or get off the pot here, so opinions are appreciated.

Whynn is a battle hardened mama in my game. It's a rare fight that some baddie doesn't shatter. Can't tell you how many screenies I have with Whynn dealing unpleasantness to folks. I do however have a great tactics line for her.

If you didn't have any problems under 1.03, then I really don't see what you get out of going to 1.04 at all. Since I did have a massive CtD problem, fixed only by a (slight) modification to the .exe, I am currently testing the new patch for myself.

 

So far, 1.04 seems to have done a decent job of not causing CtDs, and reducing load times and lagging compared to 1.03. It also appears to have corrected the "Stealing and Dog Fetch" bugs. Since I don't make very much use of the AI Tactics (keep wanting to do more, but currently just ensure self-healing) I haven't experienced the "scripting roll-back" problem at all. So at the moment, staying patched to 1.04 makes sense for me.

 

I'll know more after I get into Awakenings with the character imported from my current DA:O playthrough. Had real frustration with the broken Companion Quests the first time(s) around. :verymad: Looking forward to playing the real game this time. :thumbsup:

The main reason I installed 1.04 was for the Awakening quest fixes, as 1.03 worked quite well for me as well. Did overriding with the 1.03 script.ldf help any with the tactics problem? Ive extracted the file, but I havent tested the more complex tactical settings yet myself, since I just beat awakening with my warrior and Im making a new char.

 

DAO is really pissing me off right now though. I recently had to delete a new character, sacrificing about 5 hours of gameplay time, due to a game breaking glitch with the party picker screen (camera was in the wrong spot :pinch: ). Worst of all, I dont even know what caused it. I can only hope it doesnt happen again. Anyways, Im back at ostagar with my new dual wield rogue :).

 

In Awakening, which I played entirely on 1.04, I didnt notice any glaring bugs. Character approval and personal quests didnt have trouble triggering. Silverite mine didnt work, but the patch didnt claim to fix it anyways. I did have a few scattered CTDs, although not anywhere specific.

Okay after reading through the posts here I have a question. I've been working on getting the game working properly with the 1.04 patch after making sure all was well with 1.03 patch. Since then I've had major problems in the character creation, primarily with the Human Noble origin. Can create in character generator and in-game get to first save then low and behold any save made after this seems to be corrupted. The game says it cann't load module. Elves and human mages appear to be great, awakening characters human etc ok. ITs just the human noble origin. I've had problems both with and without mods so cann't understand what's happening.

 

Anyone got any ideas????

there's a few things that cause this, all of them somewhat common knowledge from either trial & error or other trouble shooting posts here & there

 

first thing that comes to mind since this is specifically happen with human noble is.... any .are file that has been edited in the toolset under a different name than the original & being run without the .!lst file or whatever they are

 

so, let's say the default human origin intro map is named bhn100ar_castle_cousland, and i decide to name it bhn100ar_castle_cousland_vg

 

when i export it into my override it'll need those ugly little .!sht files or it wont be recognized (to my understanding that is)

 

i prefer to avoid the entire thing by simply opening the bhn100ar_castle_cousland_vg.are with the gff editor - renaming the 3rd, 4th & 5th line to the original mapname. Save the map, exit the editor and finally rename the file itself to original - so in the event an edited map is the cause of this issue, this will be an 100% fail-safe (slighty ghetto yet still a bit classy) method of ensuring re-directs arent mixing things up

i just realized there's at least 5 or 6 things that can cause this - rather than hypothesize and use psychic readings as to what the cause could be, it's probably a good idea if you name any mods you're running, etc. i actually should have asked that first..but hey why edit it now

 

assuming the thread's owner doesnt mind this mini-troubleshoot session taking place here, that would be the first step in diagnosing this issue, a handful of people know their stuff and the more info anyone has the quicker we can cure the darkspawn taint your installation currently suffers from

i should of asked if she even uses the toolset, i remember one of the first mistakes i ever made was setting the main script file to "module_core" or whatever default is...and while it doesnt cause the error-load after chargen (thats a really strange bug i have to admit), it borked all kinds of other settings

 

ill keep an eye out in my notifications to see if we can be of any help

 

i also injected that script.ldf that was mentioned earlier in the thread into the erf, will keep an eye out for...anything & everything

1.04 is a nice patch for Origins cause its kinda remove the so called Combat Lag for the Lower Specs users! WOOTWOOT Bioware Rocks!!!!!

I don't know if this is a rumor now the female character can perform the last ritual with Morrigan with the dead baby of Alistair or Zevran or something if iam correct?

I just downloaded 1.04 to play Leliana's song. It seems to have erased all my saved games, but kept all my trophies.

@Sinophile; Installing 1.04 should NOT have had any impact on your saves. Yours is the first report I've heard of that behavior. Anything else going on with your system or the install at the time?

Interestingly, through the use of a combination of different approaches, one can get Morri to run through the entire cast of Wardens as a potential partner for the DR. When the PC dismisses one of them for whatever reason, she suggests the next. If the PC is (perceived by her as) male, and one has used "zz_addparty" to resurrect Loghain, this allows for a virtual parade of all four candidates and a discussion of the suitability of each. Lots of fun! :laugh: )
