mallow832
After reading the last stone topic I was wondering. How do you make Dark stones?
t4t3rs
Do you mean Dark soul gems?Find one of the necromancer altars (try doing the mages' guild quests, somewhere midway you find one). There are I believe 4 of em, but I use only one. (Dark Fissure)Then if you kill the necros there some will have a note on them about making it, this is technically a spoiler but it boils down to: Wait in 24 hr periods, one day of the week a light beam will shine upon the altar, when it does so - put a Grand (other kinds won't do) soul gem in, and hit the altar with a soultrap spell. You're done - your brand new Black Soul gem is ready to trap the filthy humanoids! MWAHAHAHA

Dilvish
My character has 7 Black Soulgems in his sock drawer now. I guess they would be good for an enchanted suit of armor. What are the best souls to use? I'd like to use the foul Xivilais who infest the Oblivion gates. I hate those guys. Are there better souls that I should use for black gems? Dilvish
I thought you needed black soulgems for both humans and humanoid daedra? I don't want to trap human souls even if it's easier. That seems too evil for my character. What type of daedra soul has the highest charge in a black soulgem?

Xvil's, for some odd reason, can be captured with Grand soulstones. Daedra dudes in robes and armor need Black soulstones. Dudes in loincloths and carrying two-handed weapons in one hand need only a Grand soulstone. I suspect that, since the Xvil's have the same build as Minotaurs (look at the aforementioned ability to hold a two-handed weapon in just one hand) their soul levels are treated the same as a Minotaur Lord (another creature with a Grand-level soul). That seems too evil for my character. What type of daedra soul has the highest charge in a black soulgem? As a minor point of note, human/dremora/etc souls in a black soul gem are no more powerful than other grand level souls. You get 1600 points of enchantment with either a grand soul or a human/dremora/other npc soul in a soul gem. So the only advantages of black soul gems are that some human/low level dremora souls may be less challenging to trap than most grand level souls, e.g. Summon Dremora is a Journeyman level Conjuration spell versus Master level for Summon Xivilai (but then Summon Guard is lower than either), or for the aesthetics of pure evilness if your character is into that ;-). Rhydderch Hael
Black soulstones are undoubtedly more effective for the young character early in their game. Enemies with Grand-level souls don't show up for quite a while, but you snatch up a bunch of Grand soulstones, head over to a Necro altar (you needn't advance in the Mages' Guild questline to make use the Revenant of the Necromancer's Moon) and there you have it: the ability to capture 1600 points of energy for recharge or enchantment (when and if you advance to Apprentice Rank in the Mages' Guild). With nary a Minotaur Lord or Xvil dude in sight.
