Arrow keys don't work?

I bought a gamepad to play oblivion (and other games) with and am using pinnacle game profiler to set it up because the official gamepad support sucks butt. So I set the left stick to wasd and also to the arrow keys to be able to move around in the menus. Unfortunately, the arrow keys don't work at all. In dialogue, pressing down will go downwards, but pressing up quits the conversation. Sideways only flicks down to the persuade menu/barter/exit stuff at the bottom. Is there any reason they shouldn't work? I thought it might have something to do with the darnified UI I'm using.

Can anyone help?

EDIT: As I probably should have to begin with, I searched it and apparently the arrow keys have been rebound. Is there anyway to fix that, or which is a better UI to use? I like the colour scheme of darNified, which is why I decided not to use dark UI or darkdarn.

What's BT Mod like?

Umm I would advise that you use keyboard and mouse. It is so much more fun man. I mean I have gamed on consoles all my life until I built this computer and now I wish the 360 came with its own keyboard and mouse. Yes the controllers are very handy considering that every button is nice and close but just get used to the keyboard. In my opinion its more rewarding and worth while. But if I had to recommend a game controller for your pc, then I would say to download xpadder. Very handy when it comes to mapping out an xbox controller to your pc. But that is if you have one. I hope maybe some of this has helped you man. But when it comes to oblivion, keyboard and mouse are just better. And by the way, your darn ui would not have and effect. It just makes things smaller and look much better.

You don't need the arrow keys if you're using a gamepad that's similar to an Xbox or PS3 controller. Just move the mouse pointer using the right stick, the same way you look around while not in a menu screen. When the pointer is hovering over the choice you want, press whichever button you have assigned to be Left Click.

It's slightly awkward at first but you get used to it quickly, and it makes things easier in the long run if you're using DarNified UI. The menus are much smaller with that UI so there are many more items on the screen at once, and you can get to what you want much quicker by moving the mouse pointer to the item you want rather than scrolling up or down through the long list of items.

I play Oblivion using Xpadder with the Sixaxis controller from my PS3. It functions almost identically to playing PS3 Oblivion. It's my choice because I have severe arthritis and my hands are disfigured, so I'm not able to use the keyboard controls without pain. That being said, I love my controller and I'd keep using it even if I didn't need to. For one thing, it lets me use over two dozen different hotkeys without any need to contort my hands into excruciating Gumby-like stretches trying to hit Ctrl+8 in the midst of a pitched battle, or similar dilemmas.

The decision to play Oblivion with keyboard & mouse or with a gamepad is a personal choice. People have their own reasons for what they prefer. I'm just really grateful that we do have that choice, because otherwise I would not be able to play the game at all.

If you need any advice regarding gamepad play, just ask.

Is just that the menus in the inventory are more designed to work with mice. With a big menus, it's easier to use the scroll wheel, but thats a feature that xbox controller doesn't have unfortunately.

I do wonder why they were rebound in darn's UI at all though.

You know, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "rebound" ...

I just tried it out to see for myself. I assigned the four arrow keys to the D-pad on my controller. I can use them to navigate the inventory screen just fine (I didn't try it with dialogue). The only issue is scrolling -- when I get to the bottom or top of the inventory that's currently in my view, the arrow keys won't scroll the screen so I can see more of the items. They do keep going up to the next selection when I hit the key, but that doesn't help since I can't see what that selection is; for that I need the inventory screen to scroll up or down. I wonder if there's another key to scroll that menu... Page Up maybe, or Home... I'll give it a try later and report back.
