Vindekarr
Ok, I"ve had my fun and left for Halo Reach. My departing achievements were a solid silver palace the size of a very large minecraftian mountain that hovered some single block width from the altitude cap. It looked magnificent and was a really fun base. You got down by simply leaping off the size, falling for several seconds, then landing in a water cushion. Most of the walls were made of glass, framed in silver cubes, so it's two floor design, bright lighting, huge floor to ceiling windows, glass floor cutouts, and hugely high ceilings made it a very open space. A nice base. Below it I made a reflecting pool with a hundred metre deep cutout for diving into from the top of the map. To climb back up, I used a really gigantic tree-tower as a ladder. I also had a fairly deep mine, found lots of useful minerals in a vast natural cave, but it was too open and hard to illuminate to be safe at night so I had to retreat to the clouds every time night fell, since I just couldnt place enough torches to keep it open. Minerals were carted home via boat. I used those to make three massive statues, carved out of a mountainside. One was a mighty Mario, the second a proud Pacman, and the third was a sizeable Space Invader, i felt very proud of that, but it left me with not a lot left to do, beyond a solid GOLD flying palace, you cant get much better than that. that and, I also set myself a huge new record for annihilating the environment: as a result of my canals for transporting minerals home to be used, I had to make a large dam. The I Dont Give A-Dam, however, ruptured as a result of careless dynamiting, and flooded more than half the map to about 3 blooks deep, creating a swamp forest and meaning I couldnt safely open any other mines. Zephyr2011
Ah minecraft I love it so. Unfortunately something with java is screwed up with this computer that I'm using here and I can only use the in-browser version  but on my other computer I spawned on a bay with a ring of small mountains around it. I made a cave in one side closest to the beach and began digging and I fond more than 64 blocks of iron in one vein (I was so happy) and a ton of coal in a natural cave on the other side of the bay. I got annoyed with the hostile mobs always being a pain at night if I found I needed more coal in the middle of the night so I built a massive wall that was about 30 blocks tall and 10 thick to block off the bay. I even built a sea wall so you'd have to open doors to leave. Once I had enough blocks (both dirt and stone) I built a pillar in the middle of the water of the bay, at the top of the pillar I built a sphere (17x17) and hallowed out the centermost layer (creating a room roughly 15x15x3) Up until this point I had used a ladder to get up and down but now I filled a bucket with water and went to the top and created a waterfall directly overtop the column, I then destroyed the column. So the only way to get up or down was to swim through the waterfall. I might add minecarts to bring the oar into the main level but who knows. Vagrant0
My better idea was to replace all stone with glass. Can you imagine how nice that would look? I tried the boat. It seemed to me like it travels more slowly than just swimming in standing water. Is there some benefit to them?http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=24406I need to update it, but it should give you some idea on how nice that would look. As for boats, they start out slow but pick up speed the more you go in one direction. Even without currents you travel about twice as fast as walking and 3 times as fast as just normal swimming. With a properly constructed canal system which uses currents, you can go about as fast as a minecart.

(I've never really played, forgive the stupid question) I saw the Enterprise skeleton. It will be truly impressive when he's done. I played around a little with the classic browser based game last night. Its rather a fun sandbox,
ub3rman123
But wouldn't setting up canals take more time than just walking it by foot? Wait.. This is Minecraft. All about the construction! Edit: I tried to install MCEdit, but when I extract anything from the WinRAR archive it says it's corrupt, and the application inside won't run. Edit: I tried to install MCEdit, but when I extract anything from the WinRAR archive it says it's corrupt, and the application inside won't run. It was glitchy for me. Every time I ran it it would crash and then I'd get an error message. Try the minecraft forums. ----- Anyone else tried Skylands? It's truly epic. http://skylands.goonygoon.com/ It's like a huge, floating map, with loads of different areas. It even has treasures and old ruins to explore. Definitely worth a try. Also: Using lava for lighting is only a good idea if you don't plan on further blasting. It was a lot of work getting it to stop flooding, though. Loads of stone dams were made in the process, as well as a glass skydome under the water in one spot. I installed that skyland thing. Does the chest at the very beginning in the house make anyone else's game crash? None of the other chests in the world crash but that one, and it also crashes if I destroy the chest. ub3rman123
Just did that, it's working now. Making bridges gets old fast.. I get the feeling this might be the origin of Never Dig Straight Down.
